CPS version 5 released

Just logged on to Moto's web to order some parts, and noticed that version 5 of the mobile and portable CPS has been released. If you have recently purchased a prior version, you can d/l the newest release. Typically they send new copies in the mail too.

Many new features are supported, if anyone is interested in the list of new features, PM me with your email address and I'll send you the PDF file.
Do not ask me for the CPS, I'll ignore your PM!

- Radio to Radio data is now supported. Requires option Q947 (APCO Packet Data).

- Multi-system scan is now supported.

- Motorola Data Communications (MDC) Emergency Call and Emergency Alarm are now supported.

- Motorola Data Communications (MDC) Repeater Access (RAC) and Singletone RAC are now supported. Requires option H101 (Repeater Access).

- Several Motorola Data Communications (MDC) signaling features are now supported. These include Status, Status Request, Message, Call Alert Encode, Select Call Encode, Request To Talk (RTT), and Emergency Remote Monitor.

- Conventional Encrypted Data is now supported. Requires option Q947

One thing I like not mentioned is the ability to install the newer version without uninstalling the old version first.

Wow, it went from a 40MB download for version 4.01.00 to a whopping 95MB download for version 5...hope y'all have high speed connections!

You're shittin' me, right? Is this for ASTRO25 radios only, or can you do Astro Sabers/XTS3000s too?

Hi All

Has anybody downloaded ASTRO 25 mobile and portable CPS ver 5.0 and had any trouble unzipping the mobile version? The ASTRO 25 CPS ver 5.0 for portables unzipped/installed without any problems, but the mobile version appears to have several corrupted files that prevent a full unzip and install. Downloaded( 45 minutes per download) the mobile archive several times and tried unzipping and installing on several different PCs with the same failed result.

Any Motorolans out there listening? Downloading CPS from MOL seems to be a hit and miss process, every download is different. There is no rhyme or reason to sucess or failure. Does somebody at MOL test these CPS downloads to make sure they are errorproof or is the customer the guinea pig? This isn't the first time I have had problems with MOL CPS downloads and the organization I work for only gets CPS updates thru MOL, no CDs in the mail.

I downloaded both of them, but haven't installed them yet...I plan to do it on Tuesday maybe. I've never had a problem downloading any CPS from MOL, ever...probably downloaded 30 or more revisions between the different CPS we use. I'll update with any problems I may encounter (or lack of them).

tvsjr: No I'm not sh$#ing you! If you have a HP/Compaq iPAQ H5550, you can read/write and clone an ASTRO25 (IP capable) radios ONLY.
And only the iPAQ H5550 is supported currently with PocketPC 2003.

Rather than me write it out, here is an extract from the readme file:

As for the mobile archive on MOL.......

I downloaded it twice to verifiy the problem was in the archive, which it is.

But I un-zipped it and installed it without a problem?!?!?

The XTS5000 install (after the mobile) probably replaced the corrupt mobile (common) files?!?

Yep, verified a bad file in the Mobile zipped file, but Winzip allows you to continue if desired, which I did. I unzipped both mobile & portable files to their respective folders, then installed the mobile first. When it prompted for the missing file, I directed it to the unzipped portable folder. It then completed the install with no further problems. The Mobile CPS runs & seems to work in all aspects. The portable CPS installed afterwards with no problems.

Certainly some big changes in this revision. I watched the entire Macromedia Flash file on the new features. I really like the 'fill up/fill down' feature and the 'clone express' as well.

The PDA can only be used for read/writing/cloning radios and archives...no editing of the actual codeplug can be done (except for the applicable MDC/Astro/Trunked ID's during cloning). Still handy though.

Call the 800 number on the motorola website and they will transfer you to the right people. Expect to spend about 300ish for the software, plus any programming cable/RIB box you may need.

Usually comes with 2 years of updates available thru the business online website.

when you think about it, thats only $150 a year, which comes down to about $12.50 per month to keep your radio up to date with the latest software. not bad.

just that keeping up with college dues, car payments, and various other bills, and working a part time job in between, $300 is almost half my paycheck.. grrrr
