Always wondered..... Why not?

Post by Jaqx »

This has long been on my wish list so go ahead and forgive me now for posting a "pie in the sky" message.

Why hasn't someone come out with a commercial/public saftey grade two way (whatever band you use) / multi-band scanner combination?

I've wanted such a device a million times. Public saftey agencies in the same geographic area often use widely seperated freqs. to accomplish the same, or close to the same missions. These agencies are constantly monitoring each other through scanners.

Why not incorporate the scanner into the two way using a built-in receiver and seperate speaker. Although not ideal for all applications you could use the same antenna for reasonable reception in most cases.

I know there would be some issues but, you know, "we put a man on the moon..." It seems that it would be much easier than making a true dual-band transceiver.

Anyway, somebody feel free to jump in and tell me I'm crazy or whatever but, it really would simplify things for a lot of people.

I was thinking more along the lines of a mobile unit than base or dispatch.

It's no big thing to add bands to a console, that's what they are for. The mobile is the problem.

2-way with scanner

Post by calif dave »

Most of the counties in the Eastbay(San Fransisco area)have gone to the new 800Mhz Motorola trunking system,Oakland is on the G.E. system(which is a lot easier to scan with a trunk tracker scanner). These systems allow them the option of doing this.
KENWOOD makes at least one dual band mobile I have seen that will scan both bands.I sure wish I could afford one of em.

Multimode Radio

Post by Susan157 »

Amateur radio has had many multi-band radio's
for years that cover different freq. The kenwood
th-78A covered vhf/Uhf/800 mhz when you did the mods.
For a 5 watt small portable it also was a crossband
repeater also.
