Spectra A/B speaker

Post by walt10 »

HI:
I have a D37 spectra that will do A/B external speaker. I have a horn that I would like to put under the hood. Where do I hook up the second speaker. Is it on the 15 pin connector?

Thanks Walt

The A/B speaker requires a speaker relay pod. The part number I found is:
YLN4570A - External Speaker Relay Pod (A/B speaker switch) $ 135.00 retail

The relay pod attaches to the existing speaker connector, then the existing A speaker connects to one relay pod plug and the new added B speaker attaches to the other relay pod plug. The relay pod control line attaches to the programmed control head Vehicle Interface Port pin.

Keep in mind that the B speaker is driven by the radio's audio amplifier, not some high power Siren/PA amplifier. BTW, never ground a Spectra speaker lead or you will destroy the radio's audio amplifier.

You also have to program the A/B control head button and the VIP output pin.

If you have an A5 or A7 control head I did find this manual part number; 68-07992D87 "Speaker A/B for A5/A7" for $ 11.75 retail.

I have never ordered any of the above part numbers myself so I can not vouch for them personally and the prices are all due to jump up soon, if they have not already.

Thanks Mike:
I see how it works now. I think that I can make a relay device that will do the switching for me. I am not looking for ear shattering level just to be able to hear the radio outside. I should have this working by the weekend thanks to you.

Spectra A/B Speaker

Post by ArmsonOeg »

I use the A/B Speaker to raise or lower the audio of the regular speaker. in the car i activate it to raise the volume instantly. At home i use it to lower the volume, This is for when i get a phone call, to quickly lower the vol. Also try your MODE X feature when you change the control head buttons, You can have more than one "MODE X" which is like a "HOME" button to take u to a specific MODE...
