You can change the entire front panel! However, if the logic board is the low end 5 pin board your not going to be doing much else.

The best way to do it, in my opinion, is to get a cheap 800Mhz radio off eBay with a 16 pin logic board and full feature front panel.

The you can swap the logic board and front panel and end up with a 32ch radio. You also need a conventional firmware eprom to replace the logic boards trunking firmware. If you have a eprom burner the files are out there to make what you need.

It's not as easy as just replacing the front panel. Unless by chance your two channel radio already has a 16 pin logic board.

You can physically change the front panel, but you'll also need to blank out the logic board and initialize it, telling it that you will be using a multi-channel front panel. Also, not all logic boards and/or firmware are capable of multi-channel operation. A lot of knowledge, equipment, and the proper software are required to do this successfully.

There are procedures for doing much of this on the repeater-builder.com web site, in the MaxTrac section of the Motorola area. I think I've seen another thread within the last week that goes into just this topic.

There are people here on the forum who can probably do this for you if you send them the radio and new front panel.

I usually have enough spare parts to do it. But, right now i'm down to barely anything for parts after doing a batch of radios last week.

There is a few sellers on eBay that sell the entire replacement front panel, i can dig one up and post a link to it if needed. They usually sell for around $30-$40 with shipping.

And, as Bob mentioned, if the logic board is not upgradeable then your looking at a complete gut and redo.

THIS IS VERY SIMPLE! JUST "HEX" EDIT THE MDF.FILE IN THE RSS.FIND YOUR MODEL #ie:44 33 33 4D 4A 41 37 4A 41 35 5F 4B 02 01 02 19 07 00 02. CHANGE THE 02 AFTER THE 5F 4B 02 01 TO 10 .THIS WILL GIVE YOU 16 CHANN.YOU PROBABLY DO NOT NEED TO DO A CHECH SUM!( ON MOST RADIUS)
IV'E DONE MANY OF THESE ...NO PROBLEM

I have a Radius m216 #D34LRA7PA5CK can this be hex edited to do 32 channels. IF so what needs to be changed? I was able to change it to cover 440 but could not find the bits to edit as listed on the Maxtrac/Radius page.

Currently a m216 with 16 channels and 16 pin board. I would like to make it do 32 channels if possible. I have Radius software v 8.0 and hex workshop.

Text below comes from the Radius info page on Batlabs. This will get you the 442 Mhz with the M216. The problem is that the radio may not be properly tuned (calibrated) for that band section. Power control and deviation are likely out of whack. The proper way would be the have the board blanked and reinitialized with the help of service equipment.

Nand.

Life can be a lot easier for Radius owners. All you have to do is load your file into RSS, go the channel you want to program, when you are in the field you want to change, use the shift key and the numbers across the top of the keyboard to enter the frequency. Fill the entire field and make sure you release the shift key when you enter the decimal point. ie. 442.0000 would be $$@.)))) Its as simple as that.
