Unity spotlight

Post by comm2 »

Just replaced the interior assembly for a factory installed Unity spotlight and it seems to be real sticky. There seems to be a couple of adjustment screws on the outside and the bolt / bushing on the inner side. Just cant seem to get it set right. Just wondering if there is any tricks or adjustment procedures so this officer doesn't wear out his hand trying to operate.
thanks

Get the install sheet from Unity. Spotlights need occasional lube and proper adjustment. You probably will need to disassemble the inner and outer rod asemblies and lube them with a light coat of WD 40 or some type of liquid lube containing Teflon.

White lithium grease.....

spread a thin coating on the shaft while keeping your mind off the human variety...

If the shaft is rusty, you may need to find some type of barrel cleaner and clean it as well as sand down the shaft with a very fine grit sandpaper before applying the grease.

If the shaft is rusty, just use alittle steel wool. To lube the shaft so it lasts for a long time, just put a coat of lithium grease over it. Make sure when using the lithium grease, you just coat it, no need for a heavy dose. I built police and fire vehicles for 11 years and have fixed hundreds of spot lights. It works! Also... make sure the outside piller sleeve screw on the bracket it tight because if it is not, the whole outside sleeve may turn and chew the heck out of it.

yep, that seemed to work, just greased and messed with it for awile. It's not as good as a brand new vehicle but it works a lot better.
Thanks
