I'm in a pinch and dont have a copy of my I50R manual here.
Normally you press * to open the patch and # to close. This isn't compatable with a VOIP system i'm using because it also uses the same * and # to begin and end dialing. I can't remember if there was any way to change the length of time required for each of the DTMF tones to trigger the function. The problem is the VOIP software needs to see a # to begin dialing the call but the controller sees the # as kill the patch. It would work fine if the I50R required lets say a 2 second # press to kill the patch. Ideas?

I had a similar problem. I found it easier in the short term to simply change what the VOIP software was looking for. Changed the # to a 11.... I know that may not answer your original post. But it may be a short term fix for testing.
