Help!!! Camaro Police Install

Post by Jaqx »

I've got to spec out and install a couple of 2002 Camaro Police vehicles. I took a look at one the other day, tight....

Does anyone have any experience doing full installs in these really cool but cramped cars? Any ideas or even pix would be very handy.

These cars are going to have front and rear radar, MDT, VHF high power, UHF high power, siren, switch control, scanner, and video system.

This is a complete new venture for this agency. It'll be all new equipment and they really don't care what brands are used as long as it gets the job done. Cost is an issue but, not the biggest issue. (I'm not saying skies the limit, reasonable prices are important.) They are willing to spend a reasonable amount. They are still deciding between light bar and slick-top but they are going to be marked.

Thanks in advance,
Jaqx

Check with the Florida Highway Patrol. They just bought a boatload of these things.

New York State Police has a bunch of Camaros too. Next time I see one of my friends, I'll have to ask him what they use in their cars. You can take two GE Orion radios and put a Systems head on them, and have one control head take care of two radios and lighting and siren functions if properly interfaced with a Federal Signal SmartSiren. If you want to stay with /\/\, similar things can be done with Syntors. At the same time though, operating that setup may not be intuitive to a lot of people. If you want to break out the siren and lighting from the radio, I'm a BIG fan of the Federal Signal Unitrol units. One slide bar will control three lighting levels and the siren... probably better for pursuit situiations. As far as I can tell, the NYSP patrol units in this area have GE Orions (some dual radio) and the Unitrol Touchmasters.

Also, Oregon State Police has been doing this for at least 10 years. Sorry I don't have any contacts.

What radios do you own?: HT1250 VHF, CDM1550 UHF

New York State Troopers Camaro

I haven't myself seen the inside, but I have seen one right behind me. They're slick roof with more hideaway strobes and leds than present at a regional buff show. NYS puts one little line down the side and squeeze the state seal into a circle about the diameter of a coffe cup. You cannot see these things unless they want to be seen.

Camaro Install

Jaqx I just got the pics from one of our 02 Camaros that was built this week. Texas Highway Patrol purchased 42 for the last go around and these are photos of the one going to one of my area troopers. Send me a PM or email me and I will send them to you. I had them do some step by step so you could see the before and after effects.
