CLB to CXB in 60 seconds - is this so?

Post by n5rwc »

Hello all.

Regarding the MSF5000 - I have a spare C74CXB7106BT lower section and a high stability oscillator is included. The control shelf also includes a 4 wire remote + a secure card.

Want I would like know is will I will be okay in swapping out just the control-shelf only and use the RF section that is in my original CLB and plug up the digi control shelf and then program the information that the analog was setup too to see if everything is working okay? I don't know why it wouldn't work but I thought I would ask someone with more experience than I have.

The only thing I am not sure of is a single plug on the digital shelf listed as J802. There was a cable that was plugged into it. A 14-pin connector (J802) but the analog shelf doesn’t have that. I am not sure where it went because the cable on it was cut. The 2 cables to the remote board and the cable attached to the secure board was cut also. But I have completely removed the remote and secure boards altogether.

The other 2 cables J701 and J801 are intact and connected up. But I am not sure of the major differences between the two units to try this without a definitive answer from someone that knows more about these than I do.

I have heard that you can "upgrade" these from analog to digital but I know nothing more than that. I am not sure that I do not need to swap the entire lower section as well. Let me know your experience.

Thanks in advance.

60 seconds? No.

You can put the tray on there - no smoke will come out - but it won't work.

The CLB and CXB radios use a different interconnect board. The CXB interconnect board has a power supply that isn't there in the CLB.

You will have to get out the service manuals for both versions and engineer a solution.

(or use the correct interconnect board)

CXB - CLB msf5000

I thought that.

I believe you are taking about the board that is under the RF section of the CXB - where the VCO's are located. The differences between the two are great.

On the CXB board are several more connectors that are not on the CLB board at all.

This lends itself to another question - what about replacing the entire lower section with the CXB model? Any major differences between the PS/PA for these?
