computer problems

i have an older toshiba laptop with a motorola rib, cable and software. the problem i keep having is the error i keep getting when i try to read the code pulg info. it reads serial bus error time out. i have tried a few setting changes but to no leads. if there is anyone out here that can give me detailed help i would appreciate it. thanks in advance!

1. Serial port of PC not functional.
2. Wrong serial port selected in RSS.
3. Cable not functional.
4. RIB not powered.
5. Radio not powered.

I assume you're running DOS-based RSS on a PC running native DOS as the OS (not a so-called "DOS Window" under any flavor of Windows.

More details? What RSS, and revision, are you trying to run? What speed and 'class' is the processor of your machine? What operating system are you using? Can you program other radios with the same setup?
