Need Repair services for XTS3000 VHF

Post by webmedics »

Greetings,

I've purchased an XTS3000 Model III (VHF) via Ebay.

The radio has issues and I'm searching for a shop that's willing to work on a radio that lacks tags.

When I removed the battery I discovered that the normal labels are present, but black. No text at all, stickers are there, it's not bare metal, there's nothing on them. I have taken it to 2 Authorized Moneyrola Radio Service Centers. The first one sent it to the Depot, the second one wouldn't even go that far.

It powers up, no error codes. The CPS will read and write. Pretty much it looks like it should work, but the first shop told me there's no RF output.

Any suggestions to have this radio looked at (and fixed) would be appreciated.

What radios do you own?: X9000 thru APX

When it went to the depot, what happened?

Have you verified that there is no RF output?

What happened before and after the depot for it not to suddenly stop working?

Do you have current CPS to read the radio?

Model number, HOST/DSP verison and flashcode please!

OK, fired it up, Went through SELF TEST and displayed the zone I had selected. Incidentally, it will change zones, and personalities as the controls are programmed (FWIW)

Then I used the -- key on the side to get in the service mode.

It displayed

R07.13.00
DSPN07.03.20
H09KDH9PW7BN
625NRD3160
1 MEG
FLSHCD
500008-000400-7

Then when it displayed RF TEST it stopped there.

Does that help at all?

NRD serial tag, huh?

yep, that's bogus.

anyway, there is a memo out from M that tells M service shops not to work on radios such as yours.

certainly someone here can assist you with the radio - worst case, it needs a new RF board and an alignment. best case, it just needs an alignment.

i'd offer to do this for you, but i am travelling way too much to get to it.

good luck

So...NRD was the tip off eh?

Does it have some cryptic meaning like Nick's Radio Distribution?

So what do I do now> Is there a way to tell if it's functional? It was workign until I tried to add a few personalities to it that would have been digital if they were programmed correctly. I then reloaded the last knwo workign codeplug and found myself here.

So is it putting ANY RF out (can you get it to come over another radio or scanner), or tell us exactly what is going on?

I would agree with doug, most likely if nothing is going on, its either a bad rf board or bad programming. Without a more detailed problem (and how it got there) its all shooting in the dark.

Actually - allow me to chime in just for a sec: I have a parts built XTS 3000 800Mhz that I need to get tuned. The RF is not very sensitive. Can someone pm me a price if you can do it for me?

Thx,

I spent sometime on line with webmedics and his issue was codeplug corruption not hardware. It has been corrected and all is good for now.

Some time? Good thing I'm on the unlimited access plan!

Jason had a marathon online session helping me out with the mess I'd made of my radio. Thanks to him it's no longer a mutli-thousand dollar paperweight.

Of course, codeplug corruption is just his polite way of saying that "Newbie was screwing with his radio" Between my technological challenges and my unfamiliarity with this radio, I can only imagine how frustrating it was for him

Thanks again Jason.
