Trunked Maxtrac problems

Post by bellersley »

I've got a few 800MHz trunked Maxtrac radios that were upgraded to Smartnet firmware. The radios do work, I just need to change the programming. The transmitter has been disabled (disconnected from the PA and a resister soldered across the driver's output.

I'm using Maxtrac Trunking RSS version 5.something. When I try and read it, I get "Radio not supported". Because I have one I don't care if it dies, I used lab to blank the board then tried to reinitialize it as a Maxtrac Smartnet 840, but it just beeps at me, and trunked RSS only let's me program 8 conventional channels, no trunked.

Any ideas what I did wrong, or of there's another program I should be using to try and program them?

Do you have the 16 pin plug on back w/proper jumpers? In the Change/view go to F9 ,you need to add modes.

Yes, its the 16 pin. When I use the add mode feature, it only let's me select conventional.

One thing I wasn't sure about was when I blanked the board. There's "Trunked" and "Max Option Tnk" or something like that, and another for "basic codeplug" and one for "expanded", I tried both with the same luck. The radios are/were "B5" models before they were re-chipped.

Once you blank/reinitialize the raio with Lab, you have to program it with "Trunked" RSS. Are you trying to use the same RSS that you blanked it with?

I tried to use the trunking RSS, but it says I have to load in a saved codeplug first. I figured since Lab let's me initialize it as a Smartnet C5 radio it'd work, but I guess not! I have a codeplug from a C5 radio but for whatever reason the RSS won't recognize the file as a proper codeplug.

Are you unable to read the reinitialized radio with Trunked RSS? If you initialized the radio as a trunked radio, then it should be able to be read with the trunked RSS. If you try to read it with non-trunked rss, you will not see the trunking screens, just the conventional stuff.

Hi all!

Please help me with my problem.

I have 2 trunked Maxtracs: D45MQA5GB5 and D35MQA5GB5.

I sucsessfully read and write both Maxtracs with trunked RSS - RVN-4043-S (ver. R05.07.03).

I sucsessfully read and write D35MQA5GB5 Maxtrac with LAB RSS (F17.81.12 aka G28.90.06). But when I try read or adjust D45MQA5GB5 Maxtrac with specified LAB RSS, I get message: Error Number 21 Has Occured: Radio Not Supported.

But why? Radios very similar - both trunked, Type I.

Please help!

And other question:

When I toglee PTT (by pressing F6) in ALIGMENT MENU > TX POWER, D45MQA5GB5 Maxtrac sounds on 825.1625 MHz (default RSS test frequency) with some chirp at begin of transmittion and at the end of transmittion.

Download and listen MP3 file with recorded chirps

D35MQA5GB5 Maxtrac sounds without any chirps - just clear carrier and nothing!

This is normally or not?

And why???
