MT1000 help needed re. powerup.

Post by GP-38 »

Last week, one of my 99 ch. VHF MT1000's (H43GCJ7190CN) made an absolutely hellacious noise, like a scratchy squeal, when I turned it on. It hasn't beeped on powerup since! Everything else seems to work fine. No channels were lost, transmits and receives, display lights, monitor button drops the squelch, etc.

This is a brand-new old stock radio in mint condition. Other than a small fall or two, it's been taken care of. It's the normal front with the single "Beeeeep", not an MDC front. It also has a brand new speaker mic that was attatched at the time. Any idea what may have caused this, if it's bad, and what can be done about it? Thanks guys, this is one of my favorite radios.

Does it make any difference if you disconnect the speaker mic?

They make that noise when the controller goes south.

Lance: What?
Kilgore: Napalm, son. Nothing in the world smells like that.
Kilgore: I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end...

My fault, I skimmed your post too fast, I didn't relaize the unit still worked.... DUH.

Could be a loose connector or dirty connector on the controller.

Well, here a little over a year later...I took the MT1000 in to be reprogrammed on Monday. I got it back yesterday and lo and behold, it beeeeeps on powerup like new! One of the unsolved mysteries of Motorola, I guess.

The powerup beep can be enabled/disabled in the RSS, so maybe it just got turned back on now!

MT1K issues

Post by indigo »

I will need to reread all the posts again.....

BUT......maybe the shop had a pencil eraser handy.......the gold(en) pinouts on these bastards tend to "sour"......not a defect, just a condition....... especially in "older" age.....

Otherwise, 'should' be just fine, practically as new....

Hope all is well with GENESIS!!!!!!! We are very strong Genesis supporters.......

Good Luck!
