Who Will Repair an IFR1200S Right for once?

Post by Birken Vogt »

We have this 1200S that has been out to 4 different companies for repair/calibration at one time or another, this time it does not lock very well below 40 MC. Can anybody recommend a place that will fix it right once and for all.

IFR Repair

I've always used IFR themselves with good results. Isn't Aeroflex/IFR still supporting this model? Good Luck, Bob

I'm willing to bet wowbagger could have it in "new" condition with little effort.

Just be prepared to pay through the nose. And good luck if you have special instructions... even leaving a note inside the guts didn't help last time :P

With all the (horror) stories I've heard about IFR/Aeroflex & their work with 1200 S's these days, I have no plans to send mine in. Other cal/repair houses might win my business someday if their prices and reputations are sweet enough. At this point, I can't afford their mistakes.. so far my unit seems okay. The weaknesses are the CRT and the power supply from what I've heard.

It was last cal'd in mid 1997 just before my purchasing it. Stays on the bench most of the time, sometimes tags along to a site, and always treated with utmost care. A friend of mine sent one in a few years back that came back so hosed up, they let him trade it in toward a 1200 Super S.

Anyone here done business with the Ken Graber fellow? Haven't heard any reviews on him from anyone yet. If he's reasonable & does good work, he's probably the best guy to go to.

Yeah if I remember, IFR kept returning it NTF, so we sent it to another guy, now it doesn't want to stay locked below 30-40 MC. We rarely go that low I just wanted to try to calibrate it against WWV and discovered the problem. This one is a lot better than before we sent it in when it needed to be hit a lot to make it work among other things. I'm sure that contributed to other problems as well. Fortunately the boss broke down and also bought a 500 which is good for 95% of the work anyway and a lot smaller/lighter/more reliable.

We just received a 1200 back from IFR. We sent it in for calibration and repairs. It came back with more and different problems than it went in for. They charged us $ 3,500.00 and now we have to send it back. This is the third time we have had this experience with them. I'm looking for anyone who can recomend a GOOD repair facility.

We have had good luck with
http://www.cardinalelec.com/
They have repaired my IFS 1200 several times, and another we have with no issues or return trips.

Call up Service and :o at them: if they aren't doing the job then they need to get their :o together.

Did you actually have the unit serviced in Wichita, or somewhere else?

What, exactly, are the problems that the unit had going in, and what are the problems it is having now?

Where there any signs of the new problems before it went in, and did you report them?
This is my opinion, not Aeroflex's.

I WILL NOT give you proprietary information. I make too much money to jeopardize my job.

I AM NOT the Service department: You want official info, manuals, service info, parts, calibration, etc., contact Aeroflex directly, please.
