Ok listen up you X9000 guru's. I am trying to program 2 X9000's. 1 VHF & 1 UHF. I have the correct SW, factory rib and cables, old 386 computer, etc. I can program all my other X9000's just fine, my question is, is the same firmware used in the primary and alternate radio, or do they need a different version? I have 2 bin files, that I got from 2 different sources and they are identical, bits, checksums, etc. Also, is there a specific procedure for programming.
Thanks, my SOS lamp is now out.

What radios do you own?: X9000 thru APX

The dual radio setup requries different firmware. The firmware must be installed in both radio. There is no difference for the primary or alternate radio. Doing some research, there *MAY* be two different verisons of the firmware, one for the HHCH, and one for the Sys9000 setup. I currently use the Systems 9000 without any problem. You must also use the 1063 control head. What problems are you running into?

I can program everything, but I cannot switch between the radios. When the pri radio is active I push the alt key, the display does not change, until I push the mode switch, Then I can change modes on the second radio. If I then push the alt key I can go back to the pri radio. I can tx ok on the pri, but cannot on the sec radio. No PTT indication. I am using a xx63 SP04 head.
Plus my dual sp s/w will not program into the 449 ham bands, it is limited to 450-470, with about 1MHz overlap. With my standard s/w I can program into the ham bands, ok.

An SP04 head? Thats a new part number for me. I have not heard of that. The normal setup calls for a 1063A head. That may be your problem right there. I would try to locate a normal 1063A head. As for the ham programming, if you have RSS that you can hack or the "ham" verison of the x9000 rss, you can program that in the the radios, but you have to program them individually (disconnect the radios from the dual cable, and program them like single units). The RSS will not overwrite the dual radio commands, just the channel info. I suspect that its the SP04 head is the problem. Try to track down where that head came from.

This problem sounds slightly familiar to me. I have played around with this setup a lot and I think that happens when you have single radio firmware installed in the radios. What is the part number of the firmware in the radios you are using. The HCN1063SP04 is a new head to me as well. Would be interesting to see the insides of it.

Thanks for all the input. I thought that I had installed the correct firmware in the UHF radio. Turned out I hadn't, but I did find out my eprom programmer is broke, so I just too the sp firmware out of a LB X9000 and moved it to the UHF radio and reprogrammed, now everythig works. FYI the head is model HCN-1063E SP04. Now to figure why my rx sensitivity is down on the UHF radio, hum..........
