Also, this is a MTX 838. I decoded the model number and just realized the PRIMARY SYSTEM TYPE is "PRIVACY PLUS"

I need this for conventional channels, I hope this radio can be programmed for conventional frequencies?

Any and all help is appreciated!

This one is 136-177 mhz 99 channels with the continuous rotary knob. Doing some searching in these forums it looks like this model was made outside the US for Canadian and Australian markets?

I have had a lot of the VHF MTX838's from Australia. I also have some UHF units that I'm working on for a friend. Most of the top display units are 99 channel, some are 255. Even on the 99Ch units you can still program in 255 personalities, but you can only assign 99 modes. Most of the time they don’t have any signaling. I like the continuous rotary channel selector.

Jim,

Dont suppose you could get me a VHF codeplug? Also, since my radio model number indicates privacy plus will I be able to put conventional frequencies in it?

Thanks!

The UHF 838s sold in Australia can do MDC-1200 PTT-ID and emergency. Not sure if they can do anything else though.
