vhf mts2000 channel step problem/error message

Post by SPEAKER MIC »

i have a vhf mts2000.

i tried to put some channels in it and it enters in the rss fine, however when it comes time to program, it says that the radio wont accept 2.5 khz step channels..

why?? it lets me enter them..

when read by lab, lab wont let me enter them and rounds it to the next step, nor can i bring the step below 12.5..

please help...

oh, my ht1000 wont do it either in rss or lab...

you need to have the firmware updated before you can enter a narrow band channel.

ok, but its actually an mtx...

now heres my dilemma..

if i do the upgrade, will it become toolproofed???

that amy be ok, but i am concerned about another problem, theres no beep when i hit scan or perm. monitor..

just like my other "home made" radios, i have assembled this from working components and created good radios..
this one is an exception to the standard outcome...

as you can guess, the original vhf codeplug was lab read and lab written..
theres no other glitches and i know how to do this as i have done at least 10 radios without fail..

does that mean the original codeplug was corrupt??

as to the toolproof, i plan on getting another b-7 board and display and id like to get the full package working when im done, but as it stands, its a 160 channel full display radio with a 6 character mts cover and only 48 used channels..

thanx

You can't toolproof an MTX controller, and you can't upgrade the firmware in them either like you could in a true MTS controller. So, I think your in a catch 22 unless you either (A) find an MT/MTX controller with really new firmware like 2.13 or something, or (B) find a true MTS controller with firmware in the mid to high 6's and go that route. Or, just get a different radio all together.

There are two settings in the RSS/CPS under "radio wide" for the alert tones. One for the power on beep, and another setting to enable all tones. Double check to see that they are both enabled.
