CPS vs RSS

Post by Hightower »

If I use the CPS R01.03.00, can I go back to RSS? If so, what version of RSS is compadible with CPS? So far, it's been RSS only. I've been reluctant to re-up my software with /\/\ot because of the problems.

Thanks

You can't go back. It's a one way street. Actually that is not entirely true. If you keep a copy of your codeplug saved in RSS, thenyou can go back by reloading that codeplug from disk and programming your radio. Ofcourse, you will loose all the programming you did after switching to CPS. But this is one way back.

Have I tried it? No. RSS does what I want it to do.

Thats what I was thinking, but I didn't realize you could go back if I just had the original codeplug in the RSS. I have had no problems with RSS yet, so I can't see any reason to upgrade.

Thanks for the responce

I will say, that having used both, CPS is easier to use, but you have to have a background in RSS to appreciate CPS.
I was able to program up a new system with CPS in a little over an hour with CPS where it would have easily taken me 2+ hours navigating through F2-F4-F9-F4, no wait, I wanted F3...

You can freely program and read radios between windows CPS and dos RSS of the following versions without any complaints whatsoever; version R01.03.00 CPS is compatable with RSS version R09.03.00 and you can also read a dos RSS codeplug into the windows CPS by selecting the All Files option when opening a new codeplug and then select your DOS codeplug file to be read into the CPS, when saving it remember to change the extension to .cpg for saving in CPS format. Unfortunately you cannot read a CPS (.cpg) windows codeplug in the equivelent version of RSS.

The most recent windows CPS version is a lot easier to useas opposed to the older DOS RSS and the drag and drop feature is great if you have lots of similar frequencies and menus to setup in hundreds of radios but with different flashcodesbetween them like I have.
