New trunking system ?????

Post by RADIONET »

I have a customer that wants to migrate from the conventional CDM series to something better..

They need a multi site solution (4-5 sites) with some data transmission small packs).
They have 350 radios portables/mobiles and will increase to 600 in the next 3 years.
Of course it will be necessary to slowly migrate from the VHF system they have.
Any ideas ???

Tks,

How many conventional channels do they have??? If they have two or more then maybe they should look at a Smartrunk solution. It will allow crossing a conventional channel into a trunk system and also all you have to do is just add a board into the CDM so they get to keep the same radios and upgrade switch over costs are cheaper.

Just my two cents.

That is for a sugar cane industry mainly rurala area.
they have 7 simplex channels for the industrial area and 6 duplex divided in 3 sites.

How about passport?
you can trunk VHF channels on it, Link sites with licence exempt 2.4 or 5.8Ghz equipment for automatic roaming from site to site.

You can even run conventional repeaters on it.

It sounds like you are after a wide area solution.
what sort of range are you trying to cover and how far are the sites from the industrial area.
Post a small map with tower heights etc., terrain description and soforth.
there are ways of doing poor mans wide area on the cheap.
You could put trunking in the industrial area and then patch trunked mobiles onto the duplex channels. Easy through a Motorola CEB but there are other ways of doing it if no consoles exist

The sites they actually have are something like 30 miles from eachother. And I was thinking about moving out of the crowded VHF band.

Passport ? I remenber reading something about that, but it has been a while.. Where I can get more info ?

What about Tetra ??

Trident are the creators of Passport. Short summary - think LTR, only just a little bit smarter.

No. TETRA is a WHOLE LOT more complicated than Passport - so everything is going to cost a lot more.
This is my opinion, not Aeroflex's.

I WILL NOT give you proprietary information. I make too much money to jeopardize my job.

Granted VHF is crowded and your sites are far apart but I still would recommend SmarTrunk Solutions as the controllers can be linked via standard telephone connections. No VoIP, DSL, T1, T3, etc... needed just a good plain old POTS line.

SmarTrunk offers very little interfence and can work in both a conventional and trunked format so that the migration can take place over time. IN addition cut over costs are really inexpensive as all you have to do is add boards to the radio.

Check into Tl-Net. This is a multiple site linking system that is a fraction the cost of PassPort. Any mix of UHF / VHF is not a problem.
