MT1500
The MT1500 comes in display and no display, we have sold both types in the last month and can order them with or without display, that motorola dealer is not with it.
2nd the MT1500 is ASTRO upgradeable, it makes the radio an XTS1500 and if you buy the MT1500 and the ASTRO upgrade it will cost you what an XTS1500 will. (if the dealer is fair.)

My question is can i get the astro upgrade later after i buy the unit or do i have to purchase the astro upgrade @ the same time with the radio????

MT1500
Had a display model in my hand today. It has a very solid feel. The housing looked decent too. Sounded great.
The only weird thing........it looked like a Waris battery. The radio seemed like a cross between an HT1250 and an XTS3000.

Not "as is", but you CAN get it FLASHport upgraded to an XTS1500, whereupon it IS capable of P25.escomm wrote:The MT1500 is not capable of P25.

But an MT1500 is advertised as an 800 MHz radio and not a 700/800
like an XTS1500. So would this mean that you would have an
psedo XTS1500 that would be 800 MHz only if it was flashed P25 or
would it expand down to 764 MHz by default?
I also ran the type FCC type acceptance # for the MT1500 and it came up as an XTS2500 so I would assume the electronics is identical and just
dumbed down to analog & 800 MHz.

You are correct that it's 800MHz only as an analog radio. But, I just double-checked to be sure, and the test mode frequencies are the same as the XTS2500/5000...they allow you to test right down to 764.xxxxMHz. So, it would appear that flashing to an XTS1500 will indeed change it to a 700/800 radio.KS4VT wrote:But an MT1500 is advertised as an 800 MHz radio and not a 700/800

What Motorola says one week is not necessarily what Motorola says the next week.
In this case, the release notes for Astro25 Portable CPS Version 8 say:
"...
New CPS features supported:
===========================
- The CPS is now capable of upgrading the PR 1500 and the MT 1500 radios using FLASHport.
..."

I'm not discounting that. Just looking for some documentation. There's no better way to fight "we can't do that" than with some paper saying "yes we can." The note about flash upgrades don't really help. The MT1500 can do SmartZones, though it's not a standard option. The only other software option (and it's required at time of order) is MDC1200. So perhaps the new CPS upgrade is enabled only for the SmartZones.
No, only our local M sales rep saying that it is possible. Perhaps "possible" and "reality" are two different things in his world. I'm gonna try & get a definitive answer from him. There's no 'technical' reason why it can't be done.escomm wrote:Todd, wavetar wrote:Not "as is", but you CAN get it FLASHport upgraded to an XTS1500, whereupon it IS capable of P25.escomm wrote:The MT1500 is not capable of P25.

Do you have some documentation on this?

MT1500 on 700 MHz?
Remember that 700 MHz is digital only for primary systems. The FCC says an analog-only radio is not allowed in that band, except on the low-power 2W channels. (90.535a)

Re: MT1500 on 700 MHz?
Yep, we know that much. The MT1500 can definitely do 700MHz frequencies, as it's test mode allows it to. So, it's only a matter of a firmware upgrade to become an XTS1500 .The big question is...will Moto let you do that?Karl NVW wrote:Remember that 700 MHz is digital only for primary systems. Update:
I'm at the Motorola roadshow in Orlando, and I've confirmed that the MT1500 is now FLASHport upgradeable to P25!! It wasn't supported before now, and all the previous literature indicated as much, but that has now changed. I also confirmed that earlier models of the MT1500 can be upgraded...it's not something they had to change hardware-wise, it was a simple case of them creating the FLASHport package for it. This essentially changes it to an XTS1500...although I don't know if it allows XTS features like ADP (advanced digital privacy).

Todd,
That's amazing. My ADM said a couple months ago that there was no hardware in the radio to support P25, so this is good info to have. I'd ask about the timeframe for the upgrade being available but I have a feeling that wasn't "determined" yet
Ps. Did they bring their MOTOTRBO semi-trailer? It's got a bar and everything inside

Yeah, I was extremely hung-over this morning & didn't think to ask about time frame for availability. My impression was it was available now. Now that Motorola has confirmed it here at the roadshow, your ADM should be able to ask the right person & give you an exact answer.escomm wrote: I'd ask about the timeframe for the upgrade being available but I have a feeling that wasn't "determined" yet
Ah, you mean their "Mobile Technical Pavilion". Yes, it's here, although they appear to have left out the bar. They can set it up to showcase pretty much any of their product lines, but it's primary purpose for the foreseeable future is MotoTRBO. That's going to be an awesome platform once they launch it.escomm wrote: Ps. Did they bring their MOTOTRBO semi-trailer? It's got a bar and everything inside
