swr meter question

Hey guys its been awhile since Ive had a meter, whats my best bet for a simple (inexpensive) SWR meter just need it for VHF 50watt and less checks

Don't go cheap. Spend the money and buy a Bird 43. My cost is $308.70 for one, plus the slugs you'll need.

If you don't want to spend the money for a new one, look around on eBay or at your local hamfest.

I would be leary of spending that much on a used one from eBay. The last time i bought a Bird movement, just the meter, off there it was stuck.

Ebay is becoming the garbage dump of the internet now days.

He currently has some nice used ones in stock for around $170-$200, and slugs in the $30-$75 range depending on frequency and power.

You could get what you need from him for a lot cheaper than eBay, and it's guaranteed to work and comes with him standing behind it as tested. I bought elements and replacement parts from him over the years, definitely the man to deal with when you need Bird goodies.

I personally like the Telwave. No slugs, fwd and reflective, and a range of power settings. Much easier for doing field work. Just my opinion.

Yes don,t go cheap. Just remember, high reflective power - you got a prob. No reflective power, you don't know what you have. Cover your *sses.
