On the belt:
Treo 600 Smartphone
Minitor V VHF
Yaesu VX-7R Ham HT w/ stubby antenna, programmed for RX on all local emergency services frequencies.
If at a major incident or fire with EMS, there's usually one or two of the Corps' HT-1000's (kept in the rigs) strapped to my belt for Fire and MCI frequencies.

Isn't a post like this a criminals dream come true. Especially the guys with the pics of 6 xts radios next to their names. I know everyones proud of the equipment they own, but to list it on the world wide internet not such a good idea. I'm suprised the most by the LE officers who post things like this. If I remember my first day of training, the 2 things you do not do is post your personal property, and wear shirts that are conduct unbecomming. (ie." kill a commie"). You guys might as well post what kind of tv's, other consumer electronics and jewelry you have in your homes so that the burgulary clowns can complete their lists.....BE CAREFUL GUYS.. You all know better than this..

Re: What do you have on your belt ?
I am more a private user, and I have usually a XTS5000-II VHF on my belt (very unusual in Germany!), but also carry sometimes Saber / Systems Saber, MT2100 and MTS2000, also GP388.astro_radios wrote:Just curious as to what radios our members use and why in their day to day lives for work etc.
Post pics if you like.
In general, the (Systems) Sabers were great radios, clear and crisp audio, snappy squelch (in Germany we usually have carrier squelch), and especially with the 7014 battery even nowadays can compete in size and functionality, with almost 20 years on the counter! The MTS2000 series in my opinion were a step back in ruggedness and reliability (and the switched capcitor IF filtering is a step back in audio quality), something between the lower grade Waris series and the top Saber series. Then the XTS5000 came, the first real replacement for the Saber family, great receiver with the DSP design!
But one thing still speaks for the Saber - it has a great shape, is much more convenient to hold than any other radio, and as it is relative flat it can be carried in the trousers back pocket without being inconvenient. The later radios really are a PITA, spoken literally :-)

- What radios do you own?: to may to list here!!!!
The radio I carry changes but I have my choice of : MT1000 in 16 and 99ch in VHF or UHF, Kenwood TK-350 160ch UHF, Kenwood TK-360 4ch UHF ( I like this one for work because it is rather small ) , or my Yeasu VX-5R when I travel ( frequency agility ), and last but not least is my trusty Treo 600 that never leaves my side ( this little wonder does it all!). I don't carry a sidearm ( unless you count the large selection of knives that I have to choose from ) but when at home or out in the boonies, my Ruger Stainless Mini-14 is fairly close at hand.

So what? Two people on this board have my residental address, for example, and I trust them both - not to mention that they're on the other side of the world. It's not a problem, as far as I'm concerned.copcarguy wrote:Isn't a post like this a criminals dream come true. Especially the guys with the pics of 6 xts radios next to their names. Re: What do you have on your belt ?
My everyday radio is an MTS2000 Model I UHF. About 7 years old, and still going like the day it was new. No plans to go digital anytime soon.
My desk queen is a MT2000 UHF A7.
When I take road trips, I use my Astro Saber IIR UHF.
I have since sold all of my Mobile radios, and only use portables now. (I've gone though WAY too many vehicles in the past 7 years to even think about justifying getting a mobile radio mounted in a car).

At the fire house - XTS2500 M1.5 and a BB 8350i (note sig line)
At the farm - HT1000 UHF on the farm frequency and the BB
At home - I don't wear a belt with my underwear.

Re: What do you have on your belt ?
Ok, I figured I'd bounce this topic back to the top again
My current carry radio is an XTS5000R on UHF Model III FPP. In the car I have a UHF 110Watt Spectra with an A7 remote mount head. Also carry around my iPhone 4 24/7.
Let's see, I'm sure something has changed in the past several years that this thread has been sitting in the darkness lol
So, lets hear it, what do YOU carry currently ??

An APX in VHF/UHF R1 and a Buzz ic502 hybrid phone. I literally do not need anything else.. if I can't get in touch with either of those two devices I am well and truly 'd.
Still got the VHF JT1000 though, in case of zombie apocalypse.

At work: Nextel i860 modified with Pageboy III metal clip on back, V or U HT1550XLS depending on which customer I'm visiting.
At home: The Nextel and an EX560 VHF by the bed for when the dispatch centers call with their reports of hearing "strange noises" on the systems. You know, the noises that go away very shortly after the dispatcher wakes you up at 2am...
In the vehicles: HT1550XLS portables with external antennas. I never permanent mount anything except for the APRS trackers. If the crooks are desperate, they can steal my old Mocat CB.
