getting 2 astros to talk to each other
Hi group, I know this topic has been tossed around here and there, but it's getting frustrating here, as I have a model 2 and a model 3 Astro Saber, both UHF, both have same freq and modulation type set, both are set to astro mode, etc.etc.etc...EVERYTHING is the same, but RADIO A hears radio just fine, RADIO B does not show channel activity, nor does it receive anything when it should with another radio right next to it. oh, BOTH are IMBE.. Radio A IS transmitting, as I tested it with another radio..... BOth are 1meg units...
LIke I said, everything is set the same, here are the host and dsp info...
Is there some in-compatibility issue here, or is something wrong??
Radio A=
HOST=R07.07.00
DSP=N07.03.20
Radio B=
HOST=R07.08.00
DSP=N08.02.02

Try sending the codeplug in again, sometimes there an error somwhere, and just needs the codeplug to be sent in again, probally just an error when programming it, and probally just made the RX freq alittle off, happens to me sometimes on diffrent things, just send it back in agian, usually helps
Hopefully that will work for you, if not wait for more comments

The radio's might need to be realigned by a Tech. If radio "B" has been abused or is a little older, then it woulden't be a surprise that there is that problem. Another thing that might be a possibility is a loose connection to the antenna or some broken solder somewhere. Many different possibilities. Check to see if the will talk to each other in analog before looking for broken connections.

Are you sure both are programed for simplex/direct?
Are you sure you have buttons programed for the same thing or at leat know which is the direct button on each radio so you are able to put each radio on direct to actualy talk to each other?
Why don't you creat a new channel in each radio using default info. Put your freq into these channels. Make the entry in the zone and channl section so you can get to th nnnew info. And try to ee if that work.

This same exact thing happened when a friend of mine and I bought Astro portables at Dayton last year.
It turned out that the modulation balance on my radio was set wrong. Very wierd problem - you could see the Astro modulation on a service monitor and it more-or-less looked OK but the other radio would not listen to it.
Listening to the Astro data on the service monitor's speaker (analog mode - just listening to the buzz) it didn't sound the same as the one that worked. That's what led us to the problem.
You might try comparing the sound of the two radios as heard in analog on another radio or even a scanner.

Thanks, the radios both work fine with standard transmissions.
My question is can different levels of host and dps intercommunicate?
I would think yes but ya never know with motorola.
The channel busy light is not blinking.
When I depress the monitor button on the radio that does not hear anything, if I put my ear up to the radio, I can hear some hiss, which is normal (ya know the sound I mean?) but other than that I am clueless.....

I was finally able to get them to talk to each other.
First off I want to state that these two radios are two of three, 2 were mine, one was for someone else, that I just got back from the depot for flat rate repair and all works fine with them. I ended up having to change the Digital Mod. type to Wide on one radio and C4FM on the other and they work fine now.
Anyone have any comments to the above?

Wow..that's weird. "Wide" is wide (5.0 KHz) analog. "Narrow, " of course, is 2.5 KHz analog. C4FM is, well C4FM (4 level FSK).
Is it possible that when you were not hearing anything, the transmit radio was actually in analog (either wide or narrow) and the receiving radio was in ASTRO Only (or C4FM)? That would give you the indications you described.
