impres battery question

impres battery question

Recently we added many xts5000 type 3s to our ever growing radio fleet. Many were sent with impres chargers and batteries. Having an existing fleet with mostly non-impres batteries, my question is what happens to an impres battery in a non-impres charger, and a normal battery in an impres charger? Just trying to figure it out as we have various batteries and chargers now.

Non-impres (legacy) battery in an impres charger is like putting the battery in a legacy tri-chem charger. No extra features like conditioning, capacity analysis, anything of that nature.

Impres battery in an impres charger, I do believe once the battery has been successfully initialized in an impres charger is much the same as putting a legacy battery in an impres charger: no special data, conditioning, etc. If you charge (initialize) an impres battery for the first time in a legacy charger, I believe you will lose all of the impres features for the life of the battery, regardless if you charge it in the future with an impres charger.

Every time you charge an impres battery in an impress charger details of the charge are stored in the battery. This tells the battery when it should do a full reconditioning cycle etc. When in a normal charger the battery doesbt record anything and therefore doesnt know its history. This leads to a shorter life span

No it's not. There is an issue with the battery gauge on the XTS5000 not working correctly if you don't do the initial charge in an IMPRES charger, but that it about it.

The main thing that you are missing out without using an IMPRES charger is the reconditioning features and the warranty extension.
