Communication Center Pictures
Since there seem to be intrest in seeing communication center pictures from the LAPD post, I'll post some pics of mine.
Here is the equipment from the printer around the room. This is position 2:
NCIC/State computer printer
CAD computer
Touch screen Keltron Alarm Board (green screen behind the CAD computer)
24 VCR's and switchers
Above the phone - Dictaphone Call Checker
Centracom II radio: 9 channels full MDC/QCII/DTMF support
Centracom II paging panel/911 screen/keyboard
All Important time clock and more important cable TV
Above that video monitors
Next to that is my personal VCR for watching training tapes such as Leathal Weapon, La Confidental etc
Scanner's (mine until the new digital Bearcat comes out then it will be mounted in the console)
And the all purpose untaped batphone.
Behind my laptop is the intercom system for the PD/FD
Typewriter then the 911 printer.
Nothing special, however the two computers will be replaced by one nice one supporting both CAD and NCIC with a 17inch flatscreen, and the console will be replaced next year with a touch screen Centracom Gold Elite. All should be mounted in the console where the current equipment is.

VHF AS3 with the wideband antenna My personal radio sitting there dead waiting for the local MSS to pickup
That's also my "Scanner bank" I have my Bearcat 9000 sitting there, and because of my two 16 hour days, I decided to bring in the 780 so I can listen to the local edacs system. For some reason, the dinosaours of the dept likes to use the little uniden scanner that you car barely hear rather than the 9000. So when I come in, I switch the antenna cable to mine. I think if something is going on that doesn't come over the regional channels, I want to see "South Windsor PD" on the 9000 then to see 856.9375 and try to find it on some chart. Time for some retirements.
Camera's were installed this spring, but it was a package deal with the fire dept upstairs. Basically was done so we can monitor their parking lot, but also add color and some camera's in the cell area...
Coke machine is off limits! The state brought in their coke machines into all municipal building becasue some 1938 law let the blind agency collect revenue's from vending machines. Why pay .75 cents when we pay 50 with ours?

You will think you have died and gone to heaven when the 17" Flat Panel monitors come in. It is like a whole new world compared to the tube monitors. They recently switched all the little old tube monitors (8) at work to 17" flat panels. WOW! No heat, no shaking, no static, a clear, non-fuzzy picture that doesn't hurt your eyes!
Then Centracom Gold is sweet too. We went from a cheezo remote base to the centracom gold consoles (not a touch screen though) and it is very nice. I only wish it was a touch screen though for the door lock controls. It is sometimes a pain to hunt the button down with the mouse when you can just tap it with your finger.

eBay at it's finest:
Me: "What exactly is a 900Mhz UHF CB?"
Them: "A very nice CB at 900Mhz speed!"

Well.... someone fell asleep in the dept when SNET would replace all 911 screens with flatpanels for free....so we never got ours.
I just picked up an NEC 17" flat and WOW.
Yup, AS/400's! They were cut over to a frame relay WAN as the state system is going NCIC2000. No more terminals! Now we get a Windows 2000 computer running a terminal emulator! Imagine my joy... I kinda like the terminals for what we have to do.
