Does anyone have experience setting up comms for a Baja 1000 race team? The team I'm helping is a motorcycle team, so nothing more that a VHF portable for the rider with at least the Weatherman channel for emergencies. However, I haven't found much about freq coordination for teams other than " pick a VHF channel use it" on the off road racing forums.
I've searched this forum, but only Monty seemed to have mentioned Baja 500. RIP, Monty.
Thanks!

- What radios do you own?: HT1550's, X9000's, CDM1550's
you can't just pick a freq and use it, you need a license for whatever freq you are using.

The majority of the groups go through PCI. They seem to be the primary people assigning/coordinating channels for everyone. Many people also share channels too. As far as I know very little run repeaters.
I would ask PCI. That's your best source of info.
And for what it's worth, though old..... http://www.score-international.com/baja ... Speaks.pdf
If you want to go it alone I'd get familiar with what you can find for known Baja freqs (151-153Mhz for example). The Race-Dezert forum is a good source also; it's one of the better desert racing forums.
