It can be done. I believe you would need the hardware, ie front housing with lcd, etc. And then you would need an xts3000 model 3 s-record with the same band split and an appropriate flash code for your firmware version, if your radio is vselp, then it would also be nice to have one old enough that lab can unpack it, then you can make the serial number correct. And you would need to find a copy of lab software to load the s-record into your xts. But make sure you save all the tuning data from your original s-record before you force the new one in, or you will have to retune the whole thing. I may be missing something, but if I am I'm sure someone will chime in and correct me.

Here's what you need (part numbers in BOLD). The only thing you will reuse is the electronics from
the Model 1 case. Prices are approx as of 8 months ago - your price will vary a little

1 NTN8311B XTS3000 Keypad Board Kit $46.03

1 5105385Y19 XTS3000 LCD $85.85

1 0904857P43 XTS3500 Rubber Keypad $12.31

1 1585506D07 XTS3000 MIII Housing $68.08

1 0705368Z01 XTS3000 Keypad Flex $13.57

1 6685833D01 XTS Disassembly Tool $5.31

Then you need lab tools to force a packed s-record from a M3 of the same band split. Make sure you read the radios tuning values with tuner before starting the conversion process because your going to restore these values (with tuner) once you write the M3 s-record

If your converting an old ass vselp, the lab 3.04 should work (packed and un-packed s-records should work). If it's a IMBE, lab 3.04 won't do you a bit of good. You need newer lab type s/w and do not unpack the s-record - in other words, write the packed s-record to the radio.

Good luck :D

you also need the display locator pad, which would normally be a couple of bucks, but has been discontinued and is NLA.

There could be a complication with this project due to the new replacement display part and the firmware required to run it:

As previously posted by RFguy

FSB00047

SUBJECT: Service of XTS3000 or XTS3500 Portables - Display Driver

MODELS / SYSTEMS AFFECTED: XTS3000 and XTS3500, Model II and III radio's ONLY using host firmware earlier than listed below.
Radio Models Firmware Version
XTS3500 R01.50.00
3.1 XTS3000 R07.23.00 (Note this is IMBE)
Astro Digital (VSELP) R03.40.00
5.1 XTS3000 R06.22.00 (Note this is P25)

Issue:
LCD module part number 5105385Y19 has become obsolete. The new part number for the LCD module is 5185633C42.
However, this new LCD module will require firmware upgrade to provide the appropriate drivers needed. There will be a software order form included with each new LCD purchased.

RESOLUTION:
Procedure to identify firmware version and upgrade firmware:
1. Use RSS or CPS to read the radio. The firmware version is present under the Radio Information tab.
Note: If an archive is used the firmware will indicate “NA”. You must read the radio and have it still connected to view the Firmware Version in the Radio Information tab.

Or

2. The firmware version of the radio can be identified by setting the radio in test mode.

a. To set XTS3000 radios in the test mode, refer to “RF Test Mode” under Chapter 4 of the Astro Digital XTS3000 Basic Service Manual (68P81083C85-O). Follow steps 1 and 2 to identify firmware version.

b. To set XTS3500 radios in test mode, refer to “Display Radio Test Mode” under Chapter 4 of the XTS3500 Basic Service Manual (68P81089C80). Follow the steps to identify the firmware version.

3. If the radio has firmware version prior to the cone listed above, then the firmware needs to be upgraded if replacing the display with part number 5185633C42. In order to submit for this firmware upgrade you must have your AAD Order
Number and fill in the form that arrives with the pat to obtain this upgrade.
Note: This is not to ADD options only REFRESH of drivers and Host/DSP firmware.

I was lucky enough to get an XTS3000 display but also noted the comments regarding the newer XTS5000 version.

Thanks!

I have a VHF XTS3000, Model II that I have been trying to find someone to convert for me. It has the latest firmware: R07.71 and DSP: R08.03.03. I would like to add the MDC options, Digital ID Display, and Soft ID if possible as well. Currently my Flashcode is: 100001-000000-7

Is there anyone here that offers such a service???

Thanks,

I hope, since you are posting in a public forum, that you are looking for a legitimate shop who can sell you this upgrade as a service. Mods & Admins are not keen on posts that solicit the selling of hacks that would otherwise be profitable to the company that owns the intellectual rights to the product.

The display locator pad in question, is it Motorola part number 7505336Z01, and pretty much a black rubber frame for the LCD?

What is the differences between 3.1 and 5.1?

But what between IMBE and P25? I hopes that it's the same. IMBE vocoder used in P25 Phase I.

P.S.
I have XTS3000 MIII with Host FW R07.04.00.00. It will works with new LCD (P/N 5185633C42) without FW upgrade?
