Online Radio Console Feed
Hi all, doing a beta test with our new dispatch console system in the EOC. I have setup Windows Media Encoder to stream the screen and audio out over the Internet for remote listening / viewing. This particular console is located in my office at my desk. Our system has several channels, including a receiver for the Missouri State Highway Patrol lowband system. For MSHP you should be able to regularly hear Rolla, Springfield and Jeff City; and intermittently hear the other troops as well. Let me know what you think about this... again, just a beta... Very nice. How did you get the video feed to work like that?
Re: Online Radio Console Feed
Used a free app from Microsoft called Windows Media Encoder. Will capture the screen or any video source and audio and send them out in one package. The only drawback is about 10 seconds of lag from live, which is really not that big of a deal for this.

Sounds good. What frequency Is your MSHP receiver? I could swear I could near the NCSHP dispatching on the feed.

I find that the video is often, but not always, blurred, enough to make it difficult/impossible to read. (Running "Urge" on XP Pro.)
Real neat idea, though!

MSHP has several in the 42.xxx - 45.xxx range. I have been hearing a lot of east coast skip coming in, but havent been able to ID it, so it could easily be North Carolina...
Well, I had knocked down the resolution to save on bandwidth some, may have to bump it back up a hair...Fogster wrote:I find that the video is often, but not always, blurred, enough to make it difficult/impossible to read. (Running "Urge" on XP Pro.)

Th audio seems a tad loud for me, I lowered it to about 10 and my speakers aren't that loud. Also, after after a bout a minute the whole screen went fuzzy, but restarting it fixed it. Overall, a nice idea.

Re: Online Radio Console Feed
Well it starts out fine, but after a while gets blurred. I didn't play around enough to be sure, but I think that making the window redraw (e.g., minimizing it and bringing it back) fixes it. So it's not the resolution per se, as much as an oddity in how it's being encoded and then decoded. (Bumping the resolution may help, but might not be necessary. I don't know anything about WME, but I'd probably turn down any compression before I raised the resolution, if it's an option.)jayres wrote:Well, I had knocked down the resolution to save on bandwidth some, may have to bump it back up a hair...
Of course, don't do any of this for my benefit! I just wanted to report the problem.

Not to Hijack your thread, but I think the BEST live audio site I've ever come across is Southwestern New Hampshire District Fire Mutual Aid's Live Feed. Audio only, and it sounds like it comes directly out of the console at Dispatch. Comes across very clear.
I'm sure summa ya'll heard of KCF-415.
