What if a trunked system had both splintered and standard spaced control channels? I appears that the maxtrac would only allow one or the other.

I don't know of any way to get of the Motorola radios to do both splinter and standard trunked. I have looked at Spectra, Jedi (MTS-2000, etc), Saber and MCS2000. All of them only allow one choice for band plan; standard or splinter.

BTW, I can't get a Maxtrac to work correctly on a splinter system. I have tried 4 radios and all work fine on a standard system but refuse to work on a splinter system.

There is an 800 Astro system in the area that mixes the two types. I must assume an Astro Spectra can mix them.

I've never had a problem with any radio. Then again I have not dealt with any systems which use splinter and standard in 851 to 866, nor have I even seen one. 866 to 869 does not apply to splinter so you can mix 821 freqs with either normal or splinter without any problems.

I'm rather sure it's not possible to mix standard and normal for one system within a Motorola radio. It's hard to believe that both types would be allocated to a trunked system.

This system is in the 866-868 area. What does this mean? Is the maxtrac to out of date to handle that freq range?

Yeap, that's your problem. Maxtracs don't normally support that range, nor do most commercial oriented radios. The SmartNet Maxtrac *may* be able to handle it but I've never verified it.

In the San Bernadino County 800 System, they have used both splinter and standard channel spacing on a few of there systems. They have made some changes in the recent past due to "CRYBABY, GOTTA HAVE IT ALL NEXTELL", but they still use both on system 10 which is the San Bernadino City PD and Fire.

In SoCal, being Mexico is adjacent, only splinter frequencies are assigned. I'm sure it goes for all southern potions of Southern US border states. I'm quite sure that any freqs assigned in the lower 800 band in the border areas will always be splinter because of Mexico being able to do their own thing. I'm unsure about borders near Canada.

What I have on Sys 10, the only freqs between 851 to 866 are 856.2750, 856.8500, 858.2750, 859.4250, and 860.2500 (Excluding the "821" ones). These are all splinter freqs. I know it's a Motorola system so I'm positive the splinter plan is used.
