Hey all! Long time Lurker, first time poster.
I wanted to find out what option I need to enable in RSS or CPS to get that multi-tone permit to speak signal some radios have when you depress the PTT. I have a MTS2000 using conventional channels so I don't know if its possible. I saw a buddys XTS3k do it and I liked it for some reason . I THINK the XTS was on a TRS so I don't know if that tone was just there because the com center liked it or if it actually was there to pause the user so it can find an open freq. Anyways thanks for your help!

Re: Permit to Speak Tone
An honest to god PTT permit tone is a function of a trunking controller on a trunked system. You key the radio, the radio asks the trunking controller for permission to transmit on th talk group, the controller says yes, and the radio beeps to say "go ahead".
On a conventional system, you cannot have a true talk permit tone, as there is no controller allowing units to transmit, but you can fake it by using a variety of methods which have been discussed on here before. All that is done, is that the radio creates a local beep prior to transmitting the audio, creating a "ghetto" (and purely unsubstantiated) PTT tone.
of course this is super simplified.

Re: Permit to Speak Tone
With MTS2K the only pre PTT tone you can get is the MDC1200 Sidetone. Which is a long beep prior to transmitting a data burst. Can be set to various times of delay. It can get annoying after a while.
Re: Permit to Speak Tone
Actually, if the radio is secure equipped, you can also get a clear transmit reminder tone.
Re: Permit to Speak Tone
As discussed in the Astro forum, enabling DVRS on Astro25 radios will also accomplish this.
