Re: Digital ID vs. Soft ID??
Digital IDs can only be numbers, where as Soft ID can be anything you want (IE "MEDIC 66"). If you have a model 3 radio you can program the soft ID in the field. Also, just keep in mind your radio must be flashed for "Soft ID". This is the Q352 "User Definable ID" option.

Re: Digital ID vs. Soft ID??
I'd like to know, what format is the soft ID sent in? How can I make the soft ID I program into one radio appear on the other?
I tried to make that happen before, a long while ago, and never could make it work. I can program the ID into the radio
(Astro Saber IIIs) but it never worked radio-to-radio.

Re: Digital ID vs. Soft ID??
It's sent only in IMBE (possibly VSELP - I never played with it, but then again it might not be supported under VSELP fw)
If both radios are flashed for it, and both radios have that option enabled, it should work.

Re: Digital ID vs. Soft ID??
I've definitely seen the feature on VSELP radios before IMBE even existed.

The soft ID is sent as ASCII values in the P25 low speed [embedded data]
You can see it decoded on your digital service monitor [e.g. R2670, Aeroflex 2975]
Your radio firmware must be new enough or it won't display even if your flash has soft ID.
XTS3000 / Astro Saber 5.X will send it but not display it; 7.X does both.

Re: Digital ID vs. Soft ID??
I'll have to try hooking one of the UHF 5k's up to my buddy's R2670 next time. I did not know they could decode that. Cool!
