Firmware/DSP upgrade. Worthwhile?

Post by nmfire10 »

My XTS3000 MI currently has this:
Firmware 07.01.01.00
DSP 07.03.09

Would upgrading it to the latest and greatest make a noticeable worthwhile difference?

eBay at it's finest:
Me: "What exactly is a 900Mhz UHF CB?"
Them: "A very nice CB at 900Mhz speed!"

:-?

If it's 800MHz and rebanding will effect you, then yeah, probably. If it's just V/U and it's cheap enough/free, yeah, but other than that DSP7 has always sounded fine to my ears and the difference between that and 08.03.03 wasn't that dramatic.

Just got my 2nd XTS3000 MI yesterday, bought from the eBay:

Code: Select all

Model Number H09RDC9PW5AN
Serial Number 326AXU0678

Firmware 03.32.00.00
DSP Software A05.01.03

Codeplug 000A
System Package H37
FLASHcode 000004-002000-2
I was thinking about adding a new style display for this one, but that radio doesn't meet the 7.23 or higher firmware requirement now. The question is, does Motorola sell the firmware update as an user installable part or would the only option be shipping the radio to Germany?

Well. At least I can try out SecureNet now, at will.

Yes, you can upgrade the firmware yourself if you have a smartrib (see this thread).

I think it's US $75. But, I have no idea how much a smartrib costs if you don't have one, so you'll have to weigh that with the cost of sending it to Germany.

That's correct, standard rate for a firmware refresh kit from Motorola is $75 (this does not include labor if you have a shop do it). Current list on the RLN1015D SRIB is $595.

AFAIK, Motorola has repair center in Germany that has more advanced repair capabilities than local repair shops in the other countries in Europe.
