Wanted: Communications Center photos/ideas
I'm doing some research and would like to see setups of 911/SO/PD/FD/EMS Dispatch centers.
I'm looking for setups similar to our future one:
6 workstations, each with 2 computers, and a console with 20 channels and a paging encoder.
Any pictures you could share of anything along these lines would be great!

In God we trust. Everyone else, we run through NCIC, Thinkstream, and III.
Re: Wanted: Communications Center photos/ideas
I may have some photos from different locations around the country that might fill
your needs.
In my travels around the country, don't think that many of the dispatch locations only
have 2 computers. Most are finding they need more. However, it will depend on just
how good of an IT person you have doing the computers. Most of the dispatchers
need at least 3 or 4 screens to provide all the info required. They have one for the
911 information, one for their CAD, one for the radio dispatch. if your doing any law
work, you will also have a separate one for the NCIC. This one needs to be isolated
from any other network. Kind of adds up and clutters the work area real fast.
When I get to work today, let me check what I have. I will try and PM you then.

Thank You.
We are currently running 2 dispatch stations with 2 computers each. 2 NCIC terminals and 2 CAD terminals. We have a Zetron Desktop 4010 console for the 2 channels we communicate on.

I have a spare copy of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1221—Standard for the Installation, Maintenance, and Use of Emergency Services Communications System. Let me know if you want it & where to send it.

Here is a photo of a 911 dispatch position:
Also, check on the web. Many centers post photos, for example:

You can view any of the NFPA standards for free on their website. You just can't print or save them without purchasing them. It takes a bit of clicking, but start here:
http://www.nfpa.org/aboutthecodes/list_ ... ndards.asp
Find the standard you want and click on it. Then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on "View the [year] edition of this document". That will take you to yet another page with a link to "Open NFPA XXXX: Standard Title". Click that and it will open a popup window with a document viewer that shows the entire document.
