Initializing NOS IMPRES Battery

Post by Rayjk110 »

A buddy of mine has been recently getting NOS Impres batteries (d/c of 2002/2003) for some of our XTS5000's/. Instead of init. in a conditioning cylce, they instead go to rapid charge. No problem, seems to work fine. They seem to hold a charge. (These are being charged in an IMPRES charger with late fw)

Now, we're not getting any battery indicator, but when we press the BATT button, instead of displaying "SMART BATT DATA NOT AVALIABLE" aka dumb battery, it shows the fields, but with all blanks in them. (We're thinking that the initial battery factor charge has depleted since being in storage and the batterie's smart data is, well, f*cked.) Out of 6 batteries, only 4 do this....the rest work. Any hope left for the ones that don't show anything? Could this mean it's the batterie's end of life showing? I thought I saw a topic on this before but I could not find it. Again, the one's that don't show it seem to hold a charge fine, but just don't show battery data.

Also, the "INIT ON" screen that says when the battery is first initialized....how does it know the date? I thought that was kind of interesting...

Thanks,

R

I had the exact same problem with one of two lithium
ion Impres batteries I recently bought. I returned the
one that wouldn't indicate its data and the replacement
worked fine. Both were Motorola branded and apparently
made by W&W.

BTW, both read about 2100 mAh when they finish charging.
Not bad for a "thin" battery.

Well, you could try inserting it, waiting a second or so, take it out, then put it back in again. This should force the IMPRES charger into a conditioning cycle (per the manual).

I have a older saber nicad battery (non impres) that gives a flash in the impres charger, but charges just fine in the standard saber charger. Just one of those funny things.....
