A new RF board, and controller board, or trade someone radio for radio.

Honestly, I would just try and trade someone outright.

I wouldn't even bother trying to figure out what parts and software voodoo would need to happen.

Aren't the displays for the 5k band-specific as well? Are the 800MHz and VHF modules interchangeable?

They are band specific, sort of. Many people (myself included) have used different "banded" displays on different "banded" radios with no super-drastic results. The characters might get a little wierd and the display will do some wierd things, especially when you transmit, but that's about it, or at least as far as I've noticed....

All that I've read says they are band specific. Who knows why.

Shielding is the reason why.

Yes, because the Motorola engineers really didn't know what they were doing when they designed the specific parts for specific bands. I bow to your superior knowledge in the field of electrical engineering and RF theory and application, and will immediately swap my displays around to your suggestion, secure in the knowledge that there will be no ill effects.

Would you also call Moto, let them know that they can discontinue making multiple versions of the boards because Ray said so? Make sure they mention "goofy $hit on the display" as a feature (indicated radio in TX?), so people don't think it's a bug. Thanks!

Display line capacity on XTS radios is limited.
Suggest you use an acronym such as "GSOTD."
GSOTD spelled out is 24 spaces which is too
long for the first or second line.

...or has this gone as far as it should?
