XTS2500 Channel Announce Feature

Post by a1emt »

I am in the process of ordering some 800 MHz XTS2500's. I thought that the Fireground Voice Announcement feature was going to be added to the XTS2500 (like the XTS5000).

Does anyone know what the option code is for this ? I am getting conflicting reports.

Thanks in advance !

Fireground voice annocement or Channel Annoucement? I never heard of the 1st, but I think the 2nd is becoming standard.

At least for the 5k (and most likely the 2500)

Q445 ADD: FIREGROUND ACCOUNTABILITY SOFTWARE

I believe someone posted not too long ago that channel annocement was coming standard from the factory, but I am not 100% sure if that is accurate or not.

Isn't channel announcement where the radio "affiliates" either via Astro or MDC when the user changes the channel?

Up here, the Toronto Police have a bunch of analog conventional channels in their radios. Whenever they select one of them, it sends out an MDC burst announcing it's presence on the channel.

Channel Announcement is where the radio plays a special voice file when a channel is selected. You end up with your radio saying "Fire", "Patrol 1", or whatever you record into it (via CPS) to tell you what channel you're on without referring to the display.

The Channel Voice announcement is what I am after. I too thought that it was going to be standard on the XTS2500's with the newest firmware, but I can't find any documentation to support it. The sales rep is saying it is only available on the XTS5000.

It is most likely only available on the 5k since the 5k has 8 meg of memory.

It is available on the XTS2250 so I don't see why it's not on the 2500
Should be in the main setup screen

I'm using Channel Announcement on a 2500 right now and it works no different than a 5K;

XTS2500:
Model H46KDF9PW6AN
Flashcode 100001-000000-7

The only feature in the feature set is 'Q811 - P25 Digital Conventional' and nothing else. On the 5K the option is 'Q446 - Channel Announcement'. Channel announcement might be built into this flashcode?

Ok folks... after discussion with three different people from Schaumberg, I have found out that the 2500 will do Channel Voice Announcement **If ** it is flashed for any of the flavors of P25 Digitial operation. If you do not add any digital options to the flash (analog only radio) then there is no voice announce option.

Thanks for all the replies !

That would make sense as the DSP in the radio is used to convert the wav file into the msv file.

I am using CPS R08.00.00, I have a XTS2500 Ver 07.01.01 and I can't seem to activate the channel announcement, the box in the radio wide, general tab is darkened, like you could check it off, but it won't let me. I've got the voice files uploaded and they are showing up. In the zone section the channel annoucement portion is still grey like its not available. but if you click on the drop down it shows you my mvf files that are available. I do have Astro Digital operation, not sure if my firmware is not quite new enough???

Do the wav files need to be in any specific compressed wav format, bitrate or bit depths? How does a 4-Meg XTS2500 limit those file lengths in practice?

Yes - juat check the CPS help for e.g. for WAV keystroke.

Up to 3 secs in practice.
I am biggest fan of XTS2500 and ASTRO Digital Saber.
