Hello. I am looking to acquire an MTS2000 in the near future. It will be either a Type II, or III UHF 450-512 model. It will also be flashed up to date. What type RSS/CPS should I get (I have a friend who has an /\/\ account, just have to dish out the cash....) The DOS, or windows version?? Will it do out of band OK?? I need to get it down to 440.400 if at all possible. What is the battery life on them, and also, what are your guys opinions on them, ruggedness, overall rating?
Thanks in advance!!
Mike
A few MTS2000 Questions
Moderator: Queue Moderator
I have my MTS2000 out of band down to 440. It works just fine. I have at the very least kerchunked a repeater30-35 miles away from the creater my house is in. Works great. I haven't had any experience to speak for the ruggedness though.

Re: A few MTS2000 Questions
If you get CPS, you may not be able to program out of band freqs. So far, no one that is known of has used CPS on the PRO radios to get them out of band. Also, if you find some older MTS's, they may not work well with CPS. RSS Ver 6.05 is the last version made of MTSX, and the codeplugs are supposedly compatible with MTS CPS.Mike 701 wrote:Hello. You can easily program out of band with RSS if you follow the FAQ's right on the batlabs main board under model specific information. Be sure to make backup copies of any files or codeplugs you modify, just in case you screw up. But the badnsplit modification in RSS is pretty easy. Just follow the instructions. Also, the most Jedi UHF Range 2's (450-520) will work down to 430MHz, maybe lower, with no problems. This includes MT/MTS2000, MTX838, HT1000, JT1000 and Visars. The main trick is getting the software to accept the frequencies. With RSS for HT/JT/Visar it is simply a matter of holding down the SHIFT key and using the upper row of numbers to enter your frequencies. MTSX requires you to edit some bits in a file to do it. So far, no one has had much luck with Windows CPS modifications.
One other thing, if you buy a USED MT/MTS and it was written to with a highr version of software (RSS/CPS) than you have, you will have to obtain that version to read and write data to the radio. And remember to be careful of those selling "phony" hackjob radios on Ebay, etc. There are many a hacked MTX series radios being held out as MTS2000's. Always ask for the model, serial and flashcode. Ask if there is a product label on the rear and if it matches what is inside.
