How much will flashing an mts2000 set me back?

Hello, I was just wondering how much it would cost me for Motorola to flash my mts2000, not on warranty of course....I contacted them 2 ways, phone & e-mail & didn't get a response. My local dealer said he couldn't do it, only /\/\ could, but he couldn't give me a quote either. I need to get mine flashed, flashcode is apparently 5.65, however, it will not do MDC, nor quick call. And if possible, could I pay somebody on this board to do it for me? I can't have the radio out of service very long, who knows how long /\/\ will take....

You're confusing Firmware version (5.65) with the Flashcode. You can have the latest firmware version (6.xx), but with only a basic flashcode, very few features. Every feature added/deleted requires a different flashcode. The flash primer on BatLabs is a good place to start if you want an understanding of it. You'll also see there that FlashPort upgrades are almost exclusively for Motorola direct customers...clients with hundreds or even thousands of radios. Authorized MSS's can do the FlashPort upgrades, but they must go through their local Motorola sales rep to aquire them. So, unless you know someone who knows someone, you're probably SOL as far as getting the upgrade.

Make no mistake, I believe Motorola to be a superior product, but with the hoops you have to jump through to do certain things, it doesn't surprise me customers are exploring alternatives.

It all comes down to who you talk to, and the type of customers that they deal with.

I think that many people (and quite a few people here) are trying to deal with "communication" store that do not (can not) sell/serivce the mainstream equipment. These stores are selling the Sprits, and business radio's. Many of us here use the public safety grade equipment that they cannot do anything with.

You need to track down the right shop and then the right sales guy in the company. It helps if you work for a public safety agency and explain that you want something for your personal radio, but many of the salesmen just don't want to deal with the little guy.

I am fortunate that the local company here services our PD radios, and the sales guy (and Motorola guy) don't mind dealing with me, but I know that one of their other officer won't deal with anyone (but the same company!).
