Transmiting Problem CDM1250

Post by securitymikey »

I have a CDM1250 set up for pre/post ID at work. When I go to transmit I push the mic and the talk tone is heard but before you can even say anything the radio cuts out and does the tone again letting you talk. Sometimes it is worse were it will just keep cutting out your transmission all together. I tried a different mic from my personal CDM1250 but it started doing this again after a few weeks. Maybe a bad control head???

Have you looked at the DC supply voltage going to the radio? Low voltage will cause
all sorts of strange things to happen. Put your digital volt meter right at the radio
and key the transmitter. If you see the supply voltage to the rear connector go
much below 12 volts, I would start looking for the reason.

You could have a bad connection between the front mic connector and the radio
mother board. The radio uses a flex cable to inter connect the front panel and
the system board. Be careful when playing with this cable.

The radio could have an electrical problem like the VCO going wacky. This can
get worse with the lower temps that are becoming more common this time of
year. Pay attention to see if the problem is more prone when the radio is cold.

Just a few thoughts.

Jim

It is either low voltage or a shady PTT wire. Is this a remote head?

This unit is not a remote mounted head. The whole radio sits inside a Havis console. The radio seems to act up at all different times of the day/night. I will start with checking the power cord port area and see what that shows us. Thanks.
