The HT1250 EEPROM fix Secret

Post by dsheli »

Hey guys I recently got the EEPROM error while writing to a HT1250. After numerous attempts I finally was able to get it to take my backup codeplug. While I was encountering that problem I did a little research on the issue at hand. Well I kept coming across all these offers 'Can fix EEPROM error for $30-50 dollars fixed 50+ radios". So my question is there some secret out there for fixing these radios quickly and efficiently? I think if anyone knows what these guys are doing it would be in the best interest to share it with the community. Anyway thought I would ask.

I'm not sure where you're seeing all these "fix for pay" posts about the EEPROM CS error, but the latest release of the Pro Series CPS (R06.11.05) includes functionality to correct the error. If you have a current subscription to the CPS for your radio, you should be able to download this new release at no charge. If not, I'd suggest purchasing a subscription. If that's not an option at this time, there may be people here on the board who can help you out, possibly even someone in your local area.

I recently saw someone on ebay posting something like that for $50.00. You were supposed to ship the radio to them and for $50.00 they would fix the EEPROM error.

... Not something I would feel good about doing!

I am today fixing a pile of CDMs that have the error. These are all radios the customers did not want to pay the flat rate repair price for.

Needless to say, they are now all functional, and it takes about 4 seconds per radio.

Turn on radio, hook programming cable to radio. Attempt to read radio. Fix-it-ness is automagic.

And what was your fix for these? Was it just the new CPS for all of them?

Correct. Read the radio with the bad checksum and follow the instructions.

It WILL reset it to factory with no codeplug info.

Motorola has had this fix in the shop for almost a year, playing with it. I am sure glad they finally incorporated it into a release.

Enjoy!

Maybe I'm doing something wrong here. I'm trying to fix one of our Dept. CDM1550's with the EEPROM Error with 6.11.05. I get the option to 'Recover the radio with the default codeplug', I choose that option, click 'Ok' then it looks as if the program is working, then the CPS is "Not Responding'. I am using Vista and the front RJ45 programming cable & RIB. Should I be using the rear accessory connector for this type of programming?

You should not be using Vista for any radio programming. IT really is not supported that well.....

Also, none of this stuff was verified with a mobile cable and RIB. You should be using the ten pin serial programming cable for the CDM in the front panel.

I checked with Moto, and they said that the serial programming cable is recommended.

COM,

Thanks for the info. Do you know the part number for the 'serial programming cable'? I'm going to order that on Tuesday.

For the CDM Mobile the cable is AARKN4081B.

I can't find the upgrade anywhere. I have a licensed copy from Motorola and I need the upgrade to fix a EEPRM CS Error.

Any thoughts?

If you have a current license and subscription you should be able to log into your MOL account and download the update.

As with most Motorola issues, you just might have to call the MOL help number that is at the top of your login screen. They are well known for not
up dating your subscription to have all the software available that your entitled to. Have had to do this a number of times myself. Unless your account is
set for all the different software subscriptions, it won't show up as being able to download the new versions.

Make the phone call and get them to walk you through downloading it. If it isn't there, they will work to getting it added to your account.
