Good Morning,
I have found what I think is my answer, but I wanted to run it by the lovely techs on this website to verify my thoughts.
Simply put, I am aware that the orange button can be programmed for a "pre-select" type use.
However, I dont believe the soft buttons can.
Am I correct on this?
Thanks.

What do you mean by "pre-select"?

A presaved channel.
Similar to a home button, where you can push & hold, and it will take you to a predetermined channel.

Sounds as if you're talking about "home mode." On my 5K there is no home mode function on the red button, but there is a specific dropdown menu section of the radio wide setup menu where it will select a zone and channel to have the radio jump to when you push and hold the small "house" button which is to the left of the arrow switch on the radio's front.

Tom,
It is LIKE the home mode.
Check out the "MS1, MS2, MS3" option in the control head button help section.
It allows for a "pre-select" type function.
I would like to set that on the soft buttons, but am fairly certain you cannot.

The XTL5K with dtmf hand mic will allow you to use the top 3 buttons (1, 2 & 3) for that function.alannerd614 wrote:Similar to a home button, where you can push & hold, and it will take you to a predetermined channel.
Tune to the channel you want, press and hold the appropriate button until it beeps.
From then on, a short press of the button will take you to that channel.

Indeed, but an XTL2500, not so much.MikeOxlong wrote:The XTL5K with dtmf hand mic will allow you to use the top 3 buttons (1, 2 & 3) for that function.alannerd614 wrote:Similar to a home button, where you can push & hold, and it will take you to a predetermined channel.

At least with the basic microphone.
You can do home, and you can program the orange button, but not the soft buttons as far as I can tell.

You'll need the full keypad mic and it's not something you can program with CPS.
Not sure which revision firmware the feature came with but I think it's pretty recent.
