I need any information on this Regency mobile radio.

I have 16 channel Regency mobile radio and I know they are user programmable and that some of them had a switch in the back that you flip and you can program it then,but mine does not have that.So I am looking for any information on a 16 channel Regency radio on how to program it or just information on the radio,here is a link to a picture of a unit like mine except mine is a 16 channel(picture shows a 10 channel) and has different type of knobs on the front.

Jordan,

To put these radios in programming mode, you need to connect jumper JU401 inside the radio. I have had several of these over the years (and still do) and I've found the easiest way is to install a SPST switch on the back of the radio and connect it to the JU401 jumper, that way you can put it into programming mode and take it out without haveing to open the radio. I have the programming instructions around here somewhere, just not sure where....if you do a search you should be able to find them on the net easily enough....this was a very popular radio in it's day. I don't know of any PD or FD that didn't (or dosen't) have at least 1 of these laying around.

Whats the deal is code3response special =after all he can post a non motorola qestion/ he did on tues oct-8-2002 at 3:13 pm about (oh my)

I recall a posting that with silly replies prompted the postee to post a rather bad reply because some bd members made fun of a ligitiment qeustion he had that angered him.

After reading his explaination for his reply i went back and read the posted replies he got to his qeustion/ and yes i could see why he was
upset (not that it made it ok for his next posting but he did appologize

This bd is a darn good bd for all to use /but still we need to respect everbody and not post silly replies in fun (While not always intended it hurts others feelings and really isnt productive to the bd.)

I too broke the motorola thing by posting about a csi 32 plus communty tone panel/ but i did get a darn good supply of info and was able to solve my problem=thanx to this board and its many well educated members!

I normaly try to avoid posting when at all possible and have even decided not to post replies due to the many replies attacking others for doing so
(and they are trying to help)

Yes, this is primarily a Motorola oriented board. But what's wrong with the guy asking about his Regency? I'm glad to see he got the help he needs. It's not like he polluted your Motorola radios. If you can't answer, leave it alone.

Geez, the guy wanted help, and he came here looking for it. I'd take that as a compliment to us.

Adding the switch is a handy modification, -BUT- if you do so, use single pair shielded cable, keep the unshielded wire leads as short as possible, and tie the shield to the case.

There have been a lot of problems with people adding unshielded leads, and the RF that they pick up sends the microprocessor to chip heaven.

I'm on the road at the moment, but I may have a service manual for the Regency / Wilson 16 channel radios. I'll check when I'm back home.

So True, they were often purchased by departments in between budjets as replacement or additions and were often in use for many years after.

The first "real" radio that I ever owned was the Wilson version in the (I believe fairly rare) remote head version.

I picked it up used for $50, and it worked like a champ for a bunch of years, until the magic smoke came out of the control head one day.

Now that I've learned a bit more about radios, and you've all made me nostalgic, I think I'll have to go drag it's carcass out of the attic, throw it on the bench, and see if I can revive it.

Certainly not the highest performance radio ever made, but for some inexplicable reason, I've always liked them.

I agree with you..... I have had several of the WU and RH2510's and 2516's (and still have 2 or 3 laying around as spare's and ham radios) I've picked them up for $25 - $50 at county auctions before, and they are well worth THAT. Fancy? NO Hi Power? NO...I beleive the VHF is 25 watts and the UHF is 15 watts or something like that. But they do have Encode/Decode and get the job done for Basic Communications. I'm got Maratracs, Saber's, and Spectras now, but I'm with Humhead.... I just like 'em.
