Basic programming proceedure for XTL1500

Post by Johnno »

Hello,

Please excuse my 'newbie-like' approach to this topic, but I'm a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to programming. I still use a RLN4008B and am discovering that I am out of my depth when it comes to the XTL gen radios.

I have heaps of experience programming Astro Sabers and Spectras, on both RSS and CPS.

Needless to say, I have purchased 2 XTL1500's and about to embark on a new learning process.

So far I have seen USB cables that utilize either the front mic pins or the rear accessory connector.

Now for my request...

I would like advice as to what cable I should go for, and if there is anything else needed besides the cable and CPS.

Can I make my own cable using the rear accessory connector and run it from my RIB as per the old way? (like a Spectra)

Thanks,

Johnno

You can use the USB pins on the rear connector. I built up a cable that way and it works fine. No rib is ever used with Astro25 radios.

My city only purchases XTL5000s so I can not help you on the rest.

When I first programmed an Astro25 radio I could not figure out where to put in the frequencies since they go in the zone and you have to scroll to see them.
