Maxtrac UHF code plug needed.

Post by billreed79 »

Hello, I screwed up the code plug in my UHF maxtrac radio, and need to reload it. The model number of my radio is: D34MJA7DA5_K (16 pin logic board) If someone could email me a code plug, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks,
-Bill

We have see a whole lot of messed up radios due to JAMMING a codeplug. There has been discussion on this here many times.
Just putting another radio's code plug into your radio can and will write over the softpot settings that calibrate your radio. Messed up softpot or the alignment points can cause a radio to be: off frequency, over or under modulation, incorrect power output, and many other problems.

If using a "codeplug" from another, ALWAYS use the CLONE function in the RSS. That does NOT change the softpot settings under normal circumstances.

If not the radio will have to be recalibrated and compensated (realigned) from scratch, and that requires test equipment, service monitor ect;.

Thanks Will, that will save me further problems once I get a codeplug to reload into this badboy. I am able to read all the softpot settings from the radio, and have them set aside for safe keeping (or re-entry).
Perhaps I should clarify my problem:
My problem is: I tried to do the .mdf file hack and get some extra channels. I was up to 32ch in my 16ch radio OK, then I got greedy. I tried to punch it up to 40. When I went to program the radio at 37, all hell broke loose. The radio took the codeplug OK, gave me the good beep, then only showed 5 channels after reset. Well, Dummy that I was, I had already archived the new codeplug to the hard drive over the origional one. The computer will not read the codeplug off the HDD without giving me an error 56. Same if I go to read it from the radio. It will transfer all 320 blocks, sit there and examine the codeplug for a sec, then it will give me that $#(#($) error 56 again. So if I CLONE a new codeplug into this radio, will that solve my problem? I hope so. New logic boards ain't cheap!
I could still use a codeplug to try out.
Thanks everyone,
-Bill

The code plug has to be from the same model number as your radio realy is. Good thing you saved?? the softpot settings.
It seems going beyond 34 or so channels fills up all the space in the memory for the code plug, so the CP wraps arround and you get just a couple of chans, AND the $%#@^%%$ error(s).

The firmware that allows for 32 channels does wrap the allowed memory region after 32 channels - which is why when you programmed 37 channels you only had 5.
The logic board can be upgraded(larger eeprom) to have codeplug space for 99 channels though(with the right firmware) - I've seen it done...
