XTS5000R FM approved

i have a factory FM approved XTS5000R, i belive it has a secure module in it but when i goto the service test it says KGNONE so it may not if i bought one to put in it does the depot have to do it to keep the FM appoval or can a shop do it or even can i do it i guess what im asking are they like the saber R that were sealed and if you opened it its not a R any more?

UCM is blank, no algorithms loaded.

Opening the radio will void the FM certification. Not sure if there are many shops capable of repairing & recertifying FM radios, the depot definitely has the capability.

So I should be able to load a key into it?

No you wont be able to load any keys into it as it doesn't have any algorithms loaded in it (ie DES XL, DES OFB, etc).

If you are concerned about the radio being able to pass water immersion tests, I wouldn't worry about it. I actually have the testing kit for that. Its a pressure pump with attachments etc. You are required to submerge the radio in distilled water for testing purposes. I won't do that, lol.

Anyway the radios are required to be tested every year. If its older than that it probably won't pass anyway. "R" radios are over rated.
