M120 as good as Maxtracs for small repeater

I have always used Maxtracs, Radius and GM300s to make little repeaters with the 16 pin connectors. Can the same be done with the M120s? They seem less expensive. If so, are they as good for that type of setup? Thanks, Bill

If you just want to accomplish basic repeater functions, then the M120 will work fine. If you want better capability and flexibility, the GM300 offers some advantages. Neither is going to give you all the signaling/community functions that a real system with a real controller will provide.

Motorola's documentation suggests using only the GM300, but I have a repeater set up with two M120s (UHF) and it works great.

In a repeater configuration, what is most important, is the RF section in the receiver and the transmitter PA and heatsink. These are the same as the GM300 radios, the only difference is in the logic board as Larry pointed out, the signaling features and the more than two channel capability, nither of which are used in a repeater setup (normally).

So two M120's and my repeater module, a duplexer ect: and you have a repeater.

Note, I also provide the much bigger heatsink change out on the M120 PA's.

Thanks Larry and Will. I just tie 2 radios together as a low powered relay or as a link radio to a repeater. They sound like a good choice. Thanks, Bill

Bill, use my repeater module and you will be very happy with the results. Get a package deal on the module and the heatsink!!!
