870, I don't know what f/w and CPS version when it went from 512 to 870, IIRC it was around 10.xx.

Okay, thanks. I'm considering purchasing one with FPP Q52 and Q53 in the flash that has Host: 09.xx.xx and DSP: 14.xx.xx however I'm concerned of the possible ramifications of having mis-matched Host and DSP. What are the negative factors / effects of having mis-matched Host and DSP?

The 4 meg units don't have HOST F/W above 9.xx the DSP will be a higher rev so that is not a miss match. Below is from the instructions with the last F/W release at this time.
3. FLASH the Radio
Flashing your radio upgrades the host, DSP, and UCM firmware (when secure equipped). For this release, the radios will be upgraded to version R15.00.08 for the host, R15.00.05 for the DSP, and R05.07.12 for the UCM (if applicable) EXCEPT for SSE 5000 radios, ASTRO Spectra Plus radios and XTS 2500, XTS 1500, MT 1500 and PR 1500 radios which model numbers end with ‘AN’. These radios will be upgraded to version R09.00.28 for the host, R15.00.05 for the DSP, and R05.07.12 for the UCM (if applicable). ASTRO Spectra Plus radios which model numbers end with ‘BN’ will be upgraded to version R09.20.28 for the host, R15.00.05 for the DSP, and R05.07.12 for the UCM .Please note going forward, any R09.xx.yy version will only contain defect fixes, no new radio functionality will be added in these releases.

Hmm, okay. And what's the deal with the FPP option going away if you use a CPS version higher than R09.xx.xx?

If you have q52 and q53 fpp does not go away, but trunking if present does not work.

I see. So even if you have trunking in the flash and don't use it FPP will still not work?

No, with both q52 and q53 fpp wins and trunking does not work.

I see. So FPP will not go away even if you use CPS greater than R09.xx.xx? Radio in question would be Host: 09.xx.xx and DSP: 14.xx.xx with a flash of 5A1018-10178C-5

You have both Q52, and Q53 your FPP will be just fine, as far as trunking goes you will not be able to use it. With Q53 in the flash you are not able to assign trunking talkgroups in the zone menu.

Now for a radio WITHOUT Q53 (not yours) any CPS above 9.xx will remove the FPP menu/soft key so for the users who need both FPP and trunking they have to stay at 9.xx.

For the most part a radio with host f/w higher than 9.xx was probably upgraded a higher level of CPS.

I know there are exceptions to the above but we are talking about un-hacked CPS.

Okay. So trunking WILL NOT work at all no how, no way if you have Q52 and Q53 in the flashcode regardless of CPS version?

Keep in mind, a Q53 XTS 2500 will only do 256 channels, last time I checked. You get 16 zones, 16 channels per zone, and a unique conventional personality per channel. I don't believe there is any way to get higher than 256 channels with FPP on the current firmware.
