Adding a card cage to CEB Centracom Elite

Post by kj4bnd »

So..

I am looking at an old Card cage and i notice that the backboard looks just like the "newer" one.. Am i correct to assume that if i had the ribbon cable for the card cage i could just plug it in and have additional BIM space?

Further if this is true then what other cards would i have to have in it before i could add said BIM?

I know i would have to hyperterm in and make some config changes, but uh im not brave enough to just pull something out of the storage building on the hill and just slap it on the rack.. I would have a hard time explaining that one as i unload the city vehicle of my personal equipment should i blow the CEB thats in service now.

As far as I know, a CEB cage is a CEB cage. But, I have zero experience expanding one without a boxful of Mot Eng procedures and cards to fill all the necessary slots.

Adding a card cage is very simple. Mount the card cage, route the ribbon cable from the existing CEB to the new cage so it's part of the CEB, and run power from the Centracom power supplies to the card cage. Then it is part of the system. You can then install BIM's in it and update your CDM to reflect the changes.

I'm assuming you know all about TDM addressing and MUX/BUSY bus assignments.

You'll also need to route another Amphenol cable off of P2 to a punchblock so you can punch down the wiring for the BIM's in that card cage. P1 and P3 may also need to be cabled if you are doing things like AUX I/O's in the upper portion of the cage, etc.

You shouldn't be doing anything with Hyperterminal... Are you sure you're qualified for this?

Now that i have had about 2 days worth of digging in the manual -- i am way more confident in my abilities.

I will not be adding any aux cards -- just some bims

Thanks
