CDM1550 remote speaker & mic

Hello all, my question is, how would I go about creating an additional speaker & microphone for my cdm1550? We had this setup on our old vehicle with a maxtrac, but I never even got a chance to look at it & it is stripped now. Do I just need to purchase a regular mic and speaker? Or do I need some sort of adapter? Any help is appreciated.

All the wiring you need for mic and speaker is accesable through the plug in the rear of the radio. I just installed 4 CDM-1550+ls in our new Fire Engines, and hooked up 100w siren speakers, and remote handsets at the pump panel.

That sounds similar to what I am trying to do, it is on our command vehicle however. Could you be more specific? I am aware that I am to use the 16-pin accesory plug in the rear, but how can I plug a modular microphone plug into it & a speaker?

You used a siren speaker for the radio? Isn't that maybe a bit excessive and expensive? Unless maybe you had one lying around and used it? Never heard of doing that before.

Not expensive at all - I got one of the newer style "rounded" motorola external 7.5 watt speakers for around $25 on ebay - I can get 100 watt Federal Signal TS100 speakers all day long for 20! I just hope he didnt mount it in the cab....

Don't forget the fact that the radio needs to be progrmmed in RSS to make the external PTT and mic. audio work from the "16" pin.

Also put a 20 ohm pot, avail at RS, on the extension speaker so you can turn down the speaker.

Not at all expensive, if you are spending 1.6 mil on 4 Fire Engines. I started using siren speakers about 10 years ago, for pump panel operations. They don't blow out, don't care if they get wet, and they are plenty LOUD. Motorola doesn't make a 16 pin accy connector. Order the standard ingnition control kit for the radio. I don't have the exact pins offhand but they follow the GM series of mobile.

There are many small waterproof speakers used in the mining industry that work great....and don't look like crap! A siren speaker is a bit overkill. Although it would work fine, do you really need a 100W speaker on a 4 watt audio signal. It's large, too. Try to find somewhere on a modern engine to mount one of these! It's hard enough to find room for a Davic Clark headset jack, sometimes.

Actually the siren speaker is becoming VERY popular on pump panels of fire Engines, the driver is mounted behind the panel with just the reentry cone on the outside. There is no need for a speaker bell and the whole set up only takes up a couple of inches on the front of the panel. when money is not the primary concern I strongly recommend this set up.
