DC Remote question

Post by kj4bnd »

So .. I have my 5 channel CEB using DC Remote BIMS..

I have a VHF channel and a UHF Channel (in this thought process).. Both controlled by their respective bims (DC BIM / Termination panels)

This seems silly, but would be great if i could do this-- -I want to disconnect the VHF Channel from the CEB and punch it down parallel to the UHF Channel...

So that it is permanently patched.. The VHF has far more power then the uhf and would be great if they were permanently patched for fire paging purposes as we no longer place vhf radios into the field.. (Also need that BIM Space for another channel)

VHF is simplex.. UHF is thru repeater.. Other option is to get a rick and connect to the MCS2000 from what ever UHF i have floating around.. (I know i will do some soldiering in that config)

So main question is can it do it? and what impacts would i have if i did put the wires in Parallel??

Possibly, but it will sound mushy, and low.

Im thinking i should just rick it... .. but it is so dern tempting to just move those wires on the punch block

Try it. Adjust the audio up 6db (or earball it), and see if you can live with it.

Just create a patch at the console and leave it up all the time. Problem solved.

What radios do you own?: Motorola

Moving the wires isn't going to get you where you need to be. If it was tone, maybe, but DC is probably going to be a problem as it works on current and which even one hits the current level will key. With two in parallel, the BIM will see 40 ma instead of 20 ma and have no clue how to proceed.
If you have two tone remotes around, it would probably work as they just listen for the tones, if they both hear it, they both key. One would need to have the termination enabled and the other one not enabled for the audio levels to be right.

All that being said. Another option would be to see if there is a control input on a RICK and feed the DC adapter into the RICK controlling both stations.
Mind you that if you are running multi-frequency, then it will not work because the radios will not get a channel change command from the DC controller.

I have also seen a 2 wire to 4 wire tone converter, there may be a DC to tone converter that you could connect to a tone controller and the radio to it.
