Programming XTL5K 110W O3
Using CPS 16 and HKN6161A cable. Tried both real serial port and usb/serial adapter and when trying to read the radio I get "radio failed to acknowledge" Error context 24 Status c0000386. Radio was supposedly last programmed with CPS15. Any help appreciated. Am I missing something simple?

HKN6161A is the 20 foot remote mount cable, you will need HKN6183B programming cable
actually it might be the HKN6155 cable for the 03 head

Re: Programming XTL5K 110W O3
First of all you state it is 110 watt radio. The HKN6161 cable wouldn't even be able to plug into it as the drawer unit doesn't even have this. Now if you are going through the same style connector on the O3 accessory cable I would have to find out by finding a pinout of the cable if they even bring the proper connection out that port but your losing your ignition power wire as well since the programming cable doesnt have that. As stated you will more than likely need the CGAI programming cable. I highly recommend sticking with serial cables.

HKN6155 is for W head. HKN6183B is for O5 head. This is a high power O3.
As I received it, it came with the assy Y cable and the 6161 was supposed to then plug into the assy conn on that cable.
Still don't know what I need here.

Re: Programming XTL5K 110W O3
I have a 110W xtl2500 with M5 Head and I use the HKN6183B cable thru mic port, which should be the same for xtl5000
Re: Programming XTL5K 110W O3
Again....I highly doubt Motorola brings out all the connections to the accessory cable required to program it through that port on the cable. You need either the serial or the usb CGAI cable. The HKN6183 is not just for the O5 head (it is for a high power XTLs including the W series, as well as other setups), in your case you need to connect it to the CGAI port on the drawer unit.

Also you realize that the ignition/speaker harness plugs into the Y cable correct?ae1c wrote:HKN6155 is for W head. HKN6183B is for O5 head. This is a high power O3.

Using usb cable from XTL2500 worked. IT's ALIVE!!

KB9KST,
Could you please name all possible setups and appropriate cables to program XTL5000 (110W, O3)?

Re: Programming XTL5K 110W O3
I was under the impression that the serial cable didn't work on the TIB of the high power radios, only the USB cable (HKN6184_)
Re: Programming XTL5K 110W O3
The GCAI cables that can be used for programming a high power O3 are serial and usb. Just remember to make breakfast lunch and supper if your doing a firmware upgrade with serial.

Ok, but how about programming through Handheld Mic Accessory Cable PMLN4959A? I mean to plug appropriate programming cabe in PMLN4959A?

It differs from rear connector? No programming intercaface in extension cable?

Re: Programming XTL5K 110W O3
But XTL5000 (110W, O3) can be probgrammed through PMLN4958 cable by using appropriate CGAI cable (e.g. HKN6183)?
Here is draft of mentioned setup:
It will work or not?

The answer is no. No no and no. The cable won't even plug into it. So no no no no.

Re: Programming XTL5K 110W O3
Okay. But may I use second blue-labeled connector for programming? I want to have XTK5K in trunk, but have O3 HHCH and programming cable near the front seats. What's easiest way to set it up? Plug HKN6184 to second blue-labeled connector and extend it by usual PC USB extension cable (10' or something)?

No, you program through the orange GCAI port on the TIB.

Okay. Orange one. But question is the same. HKN6184 and usual PC USB extension cable. It will work?

Guys,
It the O3 HHCH contains firmware, and take upgrade as well as radio when performing upgrade from CPS (by using CNV file and iButton)?

Re: Programming XTL5K 110W O3
Guys,
What's the correct and easiest procedure to upgrade firmware for XTL5000 High Power with O3 head? I do have iButton and current CPS/CVNs. I can't remember this config in CPS when upgrade starts (I mean photos with different configs).
P.S.
I've upgraded to R19.00.00 w/o any issues. Nothing special. No need to choose head configuration, just run FLASHport, choose right CNV/AIFF, and wait-wait-wait.

Re: Programming XTL5K 110W O3
And one more question. Is it normally, when XTL5K HP (equipped with HW encryption module, but with no keys loaded) causes sufficiently loud 'pop' sound from speaker with each PTT press? Removing 'Tx Clear Alert Tones' (Secure Configuration > Advanced) option solves this issue. But the same option works fine with portables - I hear beep, but not loud 'pop'. Any comments about?

Re: Programming XTL5K 110W O3
Guys,
If I will connect R14 era O5 head to R19 drawler, I will need to sync heads by using Astro_25_CH_BF.zip (from 10 Jan 2013 Zip File 91MB)? No iButton required for that? Just never experienced this before.

It happens only with O3 PMUN1034C head, but not O5. Any ideas?MotoFAN wrote:And one more question.
